I was about to sign onto AIM when I had this shocking thought: "AIM 'Triton' is so annoying that I don't want to bother with it right now." How sad is that? The whole damn thing is all convoluted.
-You can't just make an away message anymore. You have to go through this 5-minute process of saving, titling, applying, closing the away message window, searching for the very non-apparent button that allows you to choose to go away, then finally selecting what message you want. And if you want to change the away message, you have to go through the whole damn process again.
-You can't alt-tab through several conversations anymore, they're all in one damn window.
-You can't see how long someone's been online or if they're idle without double-clicking on their s/n.
-Then, of all the ridiculous things they can do, they have these miniature buddy icons next to your s/n. And if your icon can't be shrunk down, they put a water droplet there. I'm sure that made sense to someone.
-Plus, your own s/n is green instead of red, which could readily be distinguished from blue. Why change something just for the sake of changing it?
-The smileys suck. You can't make them smaller, and they look plain stupid now.
-You can't minimize the window and not have it in the taskbar. I loved that feature; it made my taskbar less cluttered.
-It took another 5 minutes to find out how to change my profile, and I don't even remember how I got there anymore.
-Sam writes her IMs in white with a black background. That's nice and all, but with Triton you can't see any of her text because the black background won't show up. Why not? That's not a difficult concept for them to program in.
The complaints go on. Hey AOL, stop playing with yourselves and program a working AIM, or go back to the old one. Jerks.
