You know what it's time for?
A LONG OVERDUE ARTSPAM POST!
\o/
This is by no means everything I did this year, just the stuff I actually liked enough to show you guys. I've got seven things I did for painting class and seven things I did for printmaking. The colours are a bit off - one day I will have the money to get these archived properly, for now they're shot with my shit digital camera.
Warning for a bit of artistic nudity. And lots of big pictures.
This is the first painting I did this year. It's based on an old photo of my great-grandfather. I rather like this one. I mean, damn, that car looks like a car. That's a big achievement for me lol.
So then I tried incorporating the actual photographic images into the paintings. I had a lot of trouble with it, and I was never quite satisfied with it. These are two of my least-fugly early attempts.
This is the final painting I did with the the photo transfer, and while it did turn out pretty good, I decided to leave that tehnique behind after this. The background is intentionally flat, I was trying to capture something child-like with it.
These two go together, but they don't slot together exactly. We'll pretend that was intentional. With the pictures, I began to work out a narrative with the children looking for the dog. I never quite worked it all the way out, I'll admit I neglected my painting a bit this year, because I didn't really have any space to work in, hopefully I'll put more into it next year when I get studio space on campus.
We did a few different model poses this year, this is the only one I really liked though. I much rather like enclosed, interesting poses than stretched out ones. I have a problem with limbs.
This is the first of the prints I did this year. I actually have a lot in this vein, but I never liked them all that much. I did get used to working with mono print though. That was fun.
So then I did the velociraptors. These were widely regarded by my classmates, as well as myself, as the best stuff I did all year. I am very passionate about dinosaurs lol, and I think that shows in the quality of the work. The two space raptors are the ones I put in our group show at the Mendel Art Gallery.
Lastly, I did my bird prints. They're fun and whimsical, and I enjoyed doing them, even if I didn't quite reach the same level of detail I did with my raptors.
So! That's what I was up to artistically this year. Yay!
