A reflection...

It's certainly been awhile since I've updated. Heh, even the update format is different now!

On a more serious note, it certainly is a worthwhile time to say something.

Yesterday I was so angry, and the stages of emotion keep coming. I put up a rather vitriolic away message yesterday and got quite a few responses. I ranted and raved for as much room as this damn AOL would give me for an away message. And to sum it up in even less words, all I want to know is if you voted for Bush, please let me know...

WHAT HAS BUSH DONE FOR YOU?

Can you give me even 1 good thing from the past four years?

I probably can't say anything new, you've heard it all - but have you really listened?

Unpack these terms you through around! "Morals?" Do you now realize that everyone has morals, they just mean different things to different people. If your morals and "family values" involve discrimination and bigotry I want shit to do with your family values. How about this for morals? Respecting the right to a person's privacy, their own bodies, who they choose to love. What's so immoral about that? Look for intersections here, because morals and the economy and this ever-elusive war on terrorism are all interconnected. You do not even see the ignorance of your sigle-issue voting.

If you are a woman, if you know a woman, if you've ever seen a woman, SHAME ON YOU FOR VOTING FOR BUSH! SHAME ON YOU! How immoral is it to want to want to make sure that women can earn equal pay for equal work? All you wanna-be conservatives having premarital sex, good luck getting birth control soon!!! Because any rights we ever had to our own sexuality are being crushed from all directions.

Wake up and educate yourselves! Move out of your parents, middle-class homes, and realize THAT YOU ARE THE MINORITY. There are other people in this world besides you and people like you. Look at the reaction of the rest of the world...what does that tell you?

You want to talk about the war in Iraq, the war on terrorism? How come New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and D.C. all voted for Kerry, when they were the ones most effected by terrorism? Read something besides the local newspapers. Read some Mohanty or Hoodfar, don't presume to know more than you do!

If you're a Republican, therefor favoring smaller government bureacracies, WAKE UP!! The Democrats want larger bureacracies to feed the poor, provide healthcare, and social security, not to infringe on your right to privacy as the Republicans have expanded our government to do!

Step out of your Freudian worlds and read some Foucault. Stop judging the morals of others, stop enforcing your normals and Americanizations, and realize the social constuction of these people and programs you bash.

And please (this being my attempt at bipartisanship now), don't just sit back and watch. This is YOUR LIFE, the lives of your parents, friends, your children and their children. This is the first opportunity our generation has to shake off our safeguards and move away from apathy. Educate yourself, write your senators, go to protests, take up a cause that matters to you, BUT JUST DO SOMETHING.
