wind up stress, unwind

*breathe in breathe out*
Who ever said break was a time where you relax, sleep in and get away from school was only two thirds correct. Break for me was a) time to get away from school but somewhat stressful. Don’t get me wrong, it was a different experience for me and I willingly did it but going through it was somewhat of a challenge. So here goes the run down:

Sunday: Left good ol’ “home” and headed to the west side. The trip was relatively uneventful. The company was fun, the music good, the scenery beautiful. Got to destination A (Jon’s place) earlier than expected so he wasn’t home (but that was ok! Cuz he came five minutes later, for all those worried on my concern (griff and my parents) he showed up bout five minutes later yay!) We then went to the swing kid’s lindy lessons which was fun. I met a few different leads and had a good time dancing. Didn’t go to the big ballroom dance that night cuz I was tired [someone made a remark about falling asleep in the car and water on the head so I ended up not sleeping the entire way] which just means I’ll have to go back next semester hehe *big grin*

Monday: Met up with Trish and Rachel and we hit downtown at full speed. It was fun and immensely enjoyable. Got to go the public market and that was unbelievable! The produce was spectacular and gorgeous *grin* and the fresh seafood was so nummy! It smelled like the Chinese fish market back home it smelled extremely good. : ) Then we got to see a really upscale mall to look for some lights, saw down town a little, had lunch at the cheesecake factory. The cheesecake factory was really cool, lots of warm tans and browns and it was really cozy, perfect for a girl’s day out. Then we figured out where the bus station was and what route I was to take on Wednesday. So endeth my Monday and I was bushed yet again so no dancing for alli…once again, shucks I guess this means I need to go back to get the full experience. Hehe

Tuesday: Got a late start and wandered around the U District. Wandered campus for a good long time, met up with my host for lunch and then met up again later after his classes to go to intensives, which are advanced American social dance lesson. Was fun to just watch, tho (sorry if this sounds stuck up) not big into learning routines, but rather would do moves. Afterwards, got to do a little tango and west coast swing which was sweet *big grin* so endeth Tuesday.

Wednesday: Twas a little scared having never done the bus system before but I managed ok. Got to destination B where I met up with Jen and while her parents got the rental car (their van broketh) we got to chat and catch up at Starbucks for a good two hours. Roommates are great people to have in one’s life and I’m very thankful for mine : ) this was til around three in the afternoon. Then we and her family headed out to destination C (her sis’ house) for the thanksgiving meal and family togetherness. We got to said sister’s house about 10pm at night and we crashed.

Turkey day: There was much turkey to be had, along with yummy yams and pies galore. Jen’s mom makes one killer lemon meringue pie. Yum! And after much stuffing of food, we sat back and watched a lot of amine hehe. So endeth Thursday.

Friday: Traveled back to destination B, returned car and then got to play at goodwill for a while. Although I wasn’t feeling to great (killer headache, sinus reactions acting up) it was fun. Didn’t find anything at good will but we perused Riteaid, Biglots, and a really cool asian dried good’s market. I found dried mushrooms and red bean moon cakes at said market. It was awesome! So I have introduced all my friends here to moon cakes (with the exception of brian but he will get to try one next time I see him) Jen said it was the World part of World Class Face to Face. Haha. Then we hung out at Jen’s house.

Saturday: Picked up Jon and headed up to destination A. We went to another goodwill, and THE fish store which was lots of fun. Then it was drop off point and on for an entertaining evening spent with friends. *big grin* Thank goodness for friends, they keep you sane : D

Sunday: Our ride picked up round noonish and we headed out but not before Jon made us breakfast *smile* banana and chocolate chip waffles. Hehe sugar is a good thing to have in the morning *big grin* The drive back was smooth and peaceful. Drove a little bit but Brian kept freaking me out. It was like driving with a parent in the car hehe. Can’t wait til Christmas break when I can drive my car again. The nifty thing is that I found out a few of my friends may drive down to where I live for a while during winter break to visit family so it will be good to see them and possibly see if can get some of my hs buddies together and we can all hang out. Though there is a promise I made to my friends coming down for a Chinese lunch (yum dim sum here I come! Hehe) I’m thinking maybe bring Po-po along as well…not sure. The cool thing is that we have a bigger tank (16 gallons) for our gold fish now and the extra room will do them some good. Once we move out of the res hall, we’re going to get the 40 gallon tank with stand from Jen’s parents. In the words of Jon “It’ll be awwwesome!” *grin*

So that was break. Very busy and I missed my own bed. As great as it was to see people and friends it still stressed me out somewhat to do something like that. I’m not used to a big city, not used to doing things quite that daring (ie going city unsure of where things are and no map handy, thank goodness for native friends!), not used to the whole bus thing but definitely used to the wake up with coiled knot of nerves in your stomach that is so bad you want to visit the porcelain god for a while (get that every year the first week of school like clock work) >.< I’ve survived tho and it was an experience. Ready to head home for a while and just be. Be with family, be some where familiar and just be somewhere where I can let my guard down a little more. Looking forward to seeing friends back home and have friends come visit me at home (if all works out) Well it’s off to bed for me cuz of classes tomorrow. *hugs and swt dreams*
