We've run into a new and exciting adventure in home ownership... our office (a.k.a. the Entropic Command Center) runs three tower PCs, a laptop, cable modem, and router. And someday, we hope to add the scanner and printer back into the mix, and maybe even a copier. Last night, the door to this room was closed all night, and I swear it must have been 10-15 degrees warmer in there this morning than in the rest of the house. The thermostat for the house is on the wall shared with this room... I wonder if that's affecting the surprisingly high temperature readings?
Nothing's been damaged yet, but we have to come up with some clever ideas on how to keep things cooler and more efficient. Here are my ideas.
- Remove door completely. Replace with beaded curtain made from AOL CDs.
- Remove carpeting and replace floor with tile.
- Make sure all machines have a few inches between solid surfaces.
- Install vent duct between Command Center and hallway.
- Build desks and shelves that will A) fit the room and B) allow the numerous cardboard boxes to be unpacked, opening up more air space.
- Turn off computers when not in use.
- Open up closet-wall to join Command Center and Studio into one large room.
- Install an attic fan venting directly into the command center.
- Get some hamsters, and attach a belt-driven fan to the hamster wheel.
