Okay, so I'm going all fangirl over a new-to-me thing that I really should have stumbled across before now.
Dance of Shiva.
Okay, so I've been a fan of Shiva for, er over a decade now. (Huh.) He was my first non-Hellenic deity crush. So bonus points for that.
And after throwing in the DVD (which came in the mail TODAY, even though I wasn't expecting it for another week), I have discovered several things.
I already know many of the basic movements. Egyptian cabaret candle dancing? Nutty Chinese martial arts "don't spill the water in the teacup, Grasshopper" exercises? Bollywood and classical Indian dance? Checkity-check. Hell, I used to work some of these spiral movements and leg positions in my club dancing. Because I am a freak.
AND, this does not prevent me from flailing around like a spastic monkey and having a hard time of it, which is apparently the real point of the system. Well, not the POINT, but the sign you're doin' it right.
The POINT is "hot buttered epiphanies" and getting past mental blocks and tuning up the transmission in your brain so you can GO PLACES again. It's, perhaps, about dialing in to a direct-access line to the Muses (who rarely return my calls on the regular line).
Also, it came with a sweet handwritten note from
Havi and Selma cheering me on, wishing me well, and welcoming me to the wacky world of things Shivanautical. Awww. Yay!
I am very excited about this, and looking forward to learning more.
