Over the last week, I've finished priming the guest room, put on two coats of base colour (a soft caramel gold), and today, while
khryseos and the Bonnie Pirate Laddie finish the garage shelves, I'm doing the texturing overlay glaze thing.
Thus far, I have mixed two glaze colours - one a bronze-ish brown (called "rawhide laces" or some nonsense), and one the same colour tinted with a few globs of cadmium red and phthalocyanine blue. It darkens it a bit to a deeper brown, reduces the overwhelming yellowness of the room, and will make the burgundy in the bedspread pop nicely.
At least, that's the theory.
The process is exciting. I have to apply an uneven, scrumbly layer of both the bronze and the brown, and then go over all of it with a damp rag *before the glaze dries*. The vaulted ceiling makes this kindof a bitch, because it means running around with ladders and stuff. With a time limit. And a ceiling fan.
khryseos came in to get a kiss or something, and I was all "NO TIME PAINT DRYING OMG" and he was dubiously looking at the array of vomit-coloured paint I'd haphazardly scrawled onto the west wall and I was all "DON'T JUDGE ME IT'S NOT DONE" and he said, "I take it you're not really at a stopping point right now?" Thank the Gods I didn't have enough drop cloths to cover the whole floor, or he'd have had a paint-saturated rag hurled at his head.
Art Rage does not respect the bonds of love. I hope he can forgive me when I come down from the berserker rampage.
