1. Yes, they sell fake DVD's on Canal Street that were made surreptitiously with a camcorder in a movie theater. They cost $5.
2. Movies in New York cost $10 a ticket, and the theaters are not very nice.
3. People pee in public in Manhattan. Not just children, but adults...in the middle of the day. People notice, but they pretend not to see it.
4. On Canal Street, they sell fake designer handbags in all the stores, but there are also people on the street with armfulls of them selling them slightly cheaper. If you offer the people in the stores the street price, they'll get insulted and tell you to go away. Sometimes, when you're bargaining with the street venders, they'll scream, snatch up all their handbags and start running. That means the cops are coming.
5. Handbags sticky to the touch are not made of leather.
6. T-shirts cost $2. Sometimes $3.
7. Von Dutch gear is not cool, but thousands and thousands of tourists buy it and wear it anyway.
8. VCD's are much cheaper than DVD's if you like Japanese and Chinese movies, and they work in a lot of DVD players.
9. Things stick to the floor on a hot, muggy day in New York. Don't leave magazines and plastic bags on the floor too long.
10. Pizza only costs $1.75 a slice.
11. You can find perfectly good furniture on the street.
