She was waiting for him, just like she was every night when he stumbled back to his silent and deserted house. Sometimes she waited for him in the library, a small fire lit in the fireplace casting the only light in the room. Other nights, like this one, she met him at the front door, the house behind her dark and desolate.

I've found that I really do tend toward writing darker stuff...I love the angst! (And I apparently love making Norrington as miserable as possible...poor guy)

And I am trying *very* hard to write more of this, but it's proving very difficult (I think largely because the style and tone of the piece are hard to maintain for longer stories--at least for me!) I have a little bit more of this posted in my LJ (not happy enough with it to post to any communities yet), but I keep writing more and not being happy with it! But goodness knows, I'm trying!
