Summary: Hermione and Draco have a row after a chance mishap and Draco has a realization.

It had been three months.

Hermione and Draco never expected to find each other while attending university. Hermione opted for the small school in order to escape all her years in the public eye with Harry and Ron while Draco's excuse was the school's reputation for its excellent Potions program.

Upon first seeing Draco, Hermione kept her distance. Though he aided the Order close to the end of the war, she remained wary of him, knowing that one of his main reasons for doing so was so save his own skin. Even when they were paired together for their term project for upper level Potions, Hermione spoke to him only when necessary and quietly worked beside him.

As their first term wore on, the project required that they spend more time together to ensure its success. Eventually Hermione became more comfortable around Draco. They began conversing more and more when they worked, having the typical row now and again.

During the last two days of term, most of their time was spent at Draco's flat in upper-class London owing to the need of more space to work. After toiling over their cauldrons and parchments for 36 hours, their project was complete. As they made their way to class, Draco asked if Hermione would like to celebrate with him that night. She readily agreed having found him to have a good sense of humor and a charming personality underneath his stubborn and snarky exterior. He reciprocated her thoughts. As their friendship progressed, he noticed her little quirks to be quite charming. Sure, she was just as stubborn as he, but her wit and humor were captivating.

They flirted mercilessly at the party that evening, their inhibitions slowly fading as they got pissed together on ale and firewhiskey. Thus began their relationship when Hermione stumbled home with Draco at an ungodly hour. In their drunkenness they openly admitted that each fancied the other and in a fit of passion shagged until they were both too tired to move.

Two months later, however, Hermione was well into her summer term at university while Draco was spending a good deal of his time managing his family inheritance. Translated, when he was not at the manor he was relaxing and attending parties while Hermione worked. Most nights she stayed with him at his flat, using her small and stuffy apartment for school work and projects if she could find room amongst her stacks of books.

One morning, after having a small row with Draco, Hermione accepted and invitation to lunch from one of her classmates. He was an interesting bloke, quite fetching with a sweet and open personality, very much the opposite of Draco. Though she enjoyed Draco, she was flattered by the attention and conversations between her and James. They became quite friendly, Hermione spending her time wiith him while Draco was out. However, she always came home to Draco.

On what was her and Draco's three-month anniversary, they were to meet for dinner at a restaurant Hermione favored. After she sat at the table waiting for an hour, Hermione left. Feeling extremely embarrased and forgotten, Hermione walked along the streets to Draco's flat, intent on confronting him.

About half way there, however, she met with James who was just leaving the coffee shop where they often had lunch. Seeing the down-trodden look on Hermione's face, James ushered her into the coffee shop and sat with her while she nursed her drink. There was no mention of Draco. When they parted ways, he reminded her that he was there to talk to, emphasized further with a small kiss. In her state Hermione failed to notice one of Draco's friends also at the shop.

As Hermione made the rest of the way to Draco's flat by herself, she pondered over James and his actions. He was charming, but to Hermione he lacked the passion and fervor that Draco fully embraced.

When she entered the apartment, she saw Draco sitting at his desk with his back to her. Seeing him only made her anger and embarrassment resurface so she headed to the bedroom intent on going to bed, hoping she would be calmer in the morning. Before she could reach the door, however, Draco spoke up.

"So where were you?"

'He has some nerve,' Hermione thought as her temper flared. "Where was I?" she walked up behind him. "I was waiting for you for over an hour! I think I should be the one asking you where you were!"

Draco fought the urge to snap at her. "I got a message from Blaise," he tried to ignore her tone. "He said he saw you tonight with some guy at a coffee shop. You were snogging in the middle of the street.

"And just what do you care? You're the one alwways leaving me here while you go to your parties," Hermione sharply retorted.

In an instant, Draco was standing, his face mere centimeters from hers. "I have never been unfaithful," he said through gritted teeth and stalked away.

Hermione's eyes narrowed at his comment. "I did not snog James. He kissed me."

"Ah, so it's James," Draco sauntered back to her. "Tell me, Granger, what's so appealing? Is it his looks? Or mabye his ass? Hell, is it the way he fucks you senseless?!" Draco's voice steadily rose.

"It's not like that, Malfoy!" she screamed after soundly slapping for his last accusation, tears springing to her eyes.

With a glare, he swiftly walked into the bedroom, slamming the door behind him. Hermione quickly sat on the couch willing herself to calm down and swiping at the tears streaming down her cheeks. Once she had stopped shaking, she wordlessly entered the bedroom to get her nightgown and found Draco already in bed facing away from her.

As soon as she left the room, Draco rolled onto his back. He thought over the day's events. After he left the manor (now his family company's main office), he started getting ready to meet Hermione. While he was dressing, his thoughts were filled with her. She was stubborn, always had been. Her eyes would light up with a smile each time she saw him, even when he came home late. She left him notes if she left the flat before him in the morning. In bed she was a minx, uninhibited and open to trying new things, trusting him completely. Just then, he stopped in the middle of adjusting his tie. He looked at his reflection.

"You're in love with her," he said.

Immediately he sat down on the edge of the bed, surprised at the words that had just left his mouth. "I'm in love with her," he said once again.

He tried to think of when it must have happened. Perhaps when they met once again, perhaps Hogwarts, the war, maybe the night they celebrated the end of term? Honestly, he couldn't know. But how would he tell her? What would her reaction be?

Shaking the thoughts from his head, he dried his sweaty palms and made his resolve to leave. Just as he grabbed the keys to the flat, Zabini's head popped into his fireplace.

After recalling the day's events, Draco turned to face Hermione's side of the bed. He could smell a hint of her shampoo from her pillow and pictured her sleeping form. He felt empty not having her next to him, the sheets cold and stiff where she usually lay. With a heavy sigh, Draco got out of bed and silently padded into the living room. He found Hermione curled up on the couch, fresh tears drying on her face as she slept.

Draco sat on the coffee table across from her, once again thinking about the day. Then his thoughts turned to her possibly leaving, what he would do without her company and support. He slowly reached out to her, tucking a spiraled tendril of her unruly hair behind her ear, and gently wiped a tear from her cheek. She awoke when he scooped her into his arms, a doe-eyed look on her face. Not wanting to explain, he kissed her pouty lips.

"Come to bed," he carried her into the bedroom and laid her down. As he pulled the sheets over them, she turned away from him. After a few moments, he scooted closer to her and wrapped a protective arm around her torso.

"I love you," he quietly whispered.

"I love you too," was the soft reply he heard before drifting to sleep.

Lyrics:

I looked away, then I looked back at you.
You tried to say things that you can't undo.

If I had my way, I'd never get over you.
Today's the day, I pray that we make it through,
Make it through the fall, make it through it all.

And I don't want to fall to pieces.
I just want to sit and stare at you.
I don't want to talk about it.
I don't want a conversation.
I just want to cry in front of you.
I don't want to talk about it
'cuz I'm in love with you.

You're the only one I'd be with 'till the end.
When I come undone, you bring me back again,
Back under the stars, back into your arms.

And I don't want to fall to pieces.
I just want to sit and stare at you.
I don't want to talk about it.
I don't want a conversation.
I just want to cry in front of you.
I don't want to talk about it
'cuz I'm in love with you.

Wanna know who you are.
Wanna know where to start.
I wanna know what this means.
Wanna know how you feel.
Wanna know what is real.
I wanna know everything.
Everything.

I don't want to fall to pieces.
I just want to sit and stare at you.
I don't want to talk about it.
I don't want a conversation.
I just want to cry in front of you.
I dont' want to talk about it
'cuz I'm in love with you.

I'm in love with you.
I'm in love with you.
