hey guess what else
Today for our deisgn class feild trip, we went to H&M for the Comme des Garcon opening. Our instructor is the personal embodiment of CDG so I'm sure she came up with this plan just so she could get in there and buy stuff (and she sure did!) The program coordinator told us today that she was trying to get her to sleep in her car outside of H&M so they could be there to get in line as soon as they woke up.
I managed to get the blouse I wanted, it's the frilly sleeved one in all the ads. It's actually a sheer, silky material, I quite like it, although I had to settle for an 8 but that's not too bad. I can't wait to wear it with my short sleeved wool jacket!!
It was a crazy mad dash to get in though. It was so fun and exciting! People were running and shoving and grabbing and all the good stuff was gone in about 3 minutes. I had to lurk around the changerooms for a long time to be lucky enough to manage to snatch up the last ruffle sleeves. It was destiny!!!
People were making fun of us in line and taking ironic photos to put on their blogs. I don't think people get it. Especially when you are talking about Comme Des Garcons. I guess people think fashion is all about wear this and you re cool, wear that and you are not, but it's just another form of art, one you get to personalize and share with the designer. Noone would scoff at someone lining up outside the VAG to see a one-day show of original Salvador Dali paintings or something. Rei Kawakubo is an artist too and it's not every day that her art is accessible to us impoverished Canadians!
