So David and I are trying to pinch our pennies... And one thing that we have been doing is being really careful about our food costs. So we have been buying our whole months food at Costco. Yesterday we went and bought a 25 lbs bag of Flour why? Because we have been baking bread, David found a while bread recipe, I converted my families easter bread recipe to make one loaf, it normally makes 12.... Last night was French bread and it was nummy!
Here is the Recipe we used.
Homemade french bread- Martha Stewart
2 packages of active dry yeast.
2 3/4 cup warm water
7 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
4 1/4 teaspoon salt ( I only used 2, her food is always to salty)
Proof the yeast in 1/4 cup of warm water.
Mix flour and salt, then add remaining water then the yeast. Blend into dough. I have a kitchen aid mixer it was so much easier. Let rise twice then shape, I divided the batch into 6th, but next time I'll do it in 8ths. I let is rise again then sliced with blade, and cooked in the preheated oven at 400 degrees and misted with water 3-4 times during cooking.
