It was a good birthday. I had to work during the day (I'm taking tomorrow off for a long weekend as my "birthday" day), but Gary and I went out for a nice dinner and I got lots of good presents.
Dinner was The Melting Pot. It is a fondue restaurant. Definitely a different dining experience, but yummy. We were both stuffed when we left. You get 4 courses, cheese fondue, a salad, meat course and chocolate fondue for dessert. Yum Yum Yum. We started with Fiesta Cheese Fondue, made with salsa, cheddar and monterey jack cheese, jalapenos and beer. You get bread cubes, apples, cauliflower, carrots, celery and tortilla chips for dipping. For the salad, I had the house salad with tomatoes, eggs and Swiss cheese, Gary had a Caeser salad. Then for the main course. You select a group of meat and the "cooking style", which is the liquid you cook the meat in. We went with Coq au Vin. Very very yummy. The meats were pork, chicken, filet mignon, jerk sirloin and shrimp. We could have added lobster if we wanted, but neither of us are big lobster fans, so we went basic.
Then there was chocolate. **drool** Milk chocolate and chunky peanut butter with strawberries, marshmallows, rice crispie treats, bananas, pound cake and cheesecake for dipping or drizzling. The marshmallows were coated with oreo cookie crumbs. Oh My! So very yummy! The meal wasn't cheap (about $100 for the two of us) and it took two hours, but for a special occassion dinner it was perfect.
After we got home from dinner, I got to open my presents - no ring for those of you that are asking! I got good stuff though! Finally got the Lord of the Rings trilogy (been waiting years for that!), got Sting's CD Songs from the Labryinth - very nice, got Guitar Hero Encore Rocks the 80's, which I'm very excited to play, and a CD/DVD cabinet. We put the cabinet together last night and it's perfect - exactly what I've been wanting.
So it was a GOOD DAY!
