This Summer, I joined the book club at work. We'r reading about racism and how white people can address the inevitable, subtle racism that influences their thoughts. So, I've been thinking about my life. My white life. I'm trying to examine thoughts and actions that have always felt innocent.
For example, yesterday, I was getting ready for Season 3 of Search Party by watching the first season again. I love Search Party. Damn it, I really enjoy that show. But, I couldn't help noticing that it is very white. The main character does have a black ex-boyfriend, but it's mostly just a totally white show about privileged, upper class, college educated white people.
Am I contributing to systemic racism by watching a white show? Am I supporting structural racism by spending time viewing Search Party?
