Bright Eyes, Clear Mind

I'm off to Camp Incredible for the rest of the week, a camp for HIV/AIDS affected/infected kids and their families. I was introduced to the camp a couple years ago by my BFF, lotrwariorgodss, who unfortunately can't go up this year because she just started her new job. I know she'll miss it, but I'm so glad I've been able to continue volunteering with the organization.

It's kind of a highlight to my year, as weird as it sounds. But it's a place the kids can just be kids, not worry about people knowing that they're different, relax and reconnect with their family no matter how that family looks; it's a place to cope, and heal, and connect, and commiserate.

I'll be doing Arts and Crafts this year, running solo with visits from all age groups, from toddlers to parents, tie-dyeing, and decorating family photo frames, and snazzing up some cowboy hats. I'll miss my teens from last year, but, of course, I'm excited to be working with everyone this time. Plus, can I resist glitter? I think not.

So I'm off with an open mind and heart to connect with the kids and help them have fun. I'll end up heartbroken when they go home, but by the time I get home, I know my heart will be full. I love these kids.
