Ahh. So on Friday During the work Day Amy pickeD up Dnd 4th additioN for Us... Which was a nice SuprisE, aS i usally Cry when people give me books as giftS but in this caSE.. i did not crY.. Maybe TeaRs of joy.. but not of pain or the hatred of looking at letteRS...
I pretty much read thru most of the book so far.. Havnt gotten to the Ritual section in the back yett.. But all and all.. i must say....
Well, first of all, let me say.. i am not a fan of DnD.. Infact i have hated the game since i started playing the single greatest RPG ever made.. ShadowruN... as a Rules lawyer like my self i have never been a fan of a Level Base system, as the fatal flaw of Dnd has always been that you can never start out with the charactor you want.. which promotes good roleplaying and the strugle to create the charactor you want as the game goes on.. but it was kind of annoying.. "ITs MY MONEY AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!"
But i must say i really like this game alot.. and i think it can be alot of fuN.. the powers kind of add a "Chess" type feel to it.. there are alot of attacks and abilities that allow you to manipulate the board.. This game is defently a game where you have to use a miniutures and a map board to get the full effect... diffrent abilities that allow you to move enemies into certian positions, or re-arrange the arrangment of allies.. then bamm! Queen takes kinG! you wiN!!!
The system is really good as far as i can read (Havnt played it yett) and all the classes are very even.. no D4 HP for a wizard anymore.. hell.. all the classes have the same Base attack bonuS.. Saving throws are much better.. and mathmaticly speaking... the system is very well put together... The AC/ and savES (Which AC is now considered a Save) all keep up with the attack bonuS.. which in 3.5 it didnt.. in 3.5 any spell that allowed a Saving throw was useless agaist any charactor of maybe 8th or highter level.. as they will almost always make the saving throw.. i think its well donE..
My only issues so far are that lack of variarty with the classes.. each class has a role, and there powers are very specific to that roll.. which is fine.. but lets say you want to be a Archer.. you pretty much better pick RANGER as a class... if you want to be a TWO WEAPON FIGHTER (Ganz) you better pick RANGER, if you want to be a normal Melee fighter pick FIGHTER. The powers are a little specific to weapon type which kind of sucks.. but its a small price to pay... the powers are all very simalur among the classes.. the names and effects are slightly diffrent.. each class has its own nack of powers... RANGER powers can effect alot of people with good melee/ranged attacks, FIGHTERS do alot of damage and have devistating attacks.. THIEFS can effect the movement and placement of enemies and have special abilities when they can sneak up on someone (Combat Advantage) on a enemy.. WIZARDS have alot of spells/powers that do damage to alot of people at a good distance, CLERICS have alot of defensive and healing abilites and attacks that hurt enemies and heal allies or give them bonuses to hit. PALADINS are like a mix of fighter and Cleric. WARLOCKS are a mix of thiefs and wizards and WARLORD, well.. i forget what a warlord does...
All and all.. i Am very happy with this game.. I look fwd to a book to be released with a shitload of new powers and abilites for the classes to pick.. i also think there should be more classes... I look fwd to Monk as thats usally what i play...
I also think maybe you should be able to use/have a few more powers.. but i will play it first before i decide on that onE...
I think when i play this game.. i will be a Thief.. Either Human Thief, or Kender thief (which with some common sence, i can easly look at the races and make changes to them to incompase any race anyone wants to be... or add features that some people want.. after all.. it is a fantsy game!!)
So.. All and all.. i givE the DnD 4th addition 4 out of 5 stars... with a second review after i actually play the god damm gamE!!!
Ohh. and Humans are bad aSS in this gamE!!!
