(I considered posting this on fanficrants, but not gonna lie, they scare me a little)
I'm always leery of writing fics based on British mediums (modern ones, in particular) because I am not British and unlike the Asian fandoms I'm in, I realize that quite a lot of Brits read the fic posted. When you mess up their British-isms, they notice, they point it out. Which is fine. I completely understand and if I haven't managed to find someone to Brit-pick my fic, I usually warn that I haven't and I'm open to the corrections that are offered.
I make some effort to educate myself in the first place. For instance, I am well aware that most non-American countries use completely different money systems and I either avoid mentioning it specifically or figure out which one I'm supposed to be using instead.
Teen Wolf is set in California. In California, one uses dollars. They do not use pounds. But hey, easy mistake to make, right? It did completely throw me out of the story to see Stiles grabbing £50 to go shopping, but whatever. No harm, no foul.
And no reason to go on about how stupid it is that the readers commented on it (and all the other many and varied British-isms in your fic) and how picky and overly correct they are.
Why are American writers expected to Brit-pick and not fuss, but god forbid we actually expect reciprocation?
