Ordinary

:x

So as I was putting together the rebate stuff for my new phone, my roommate walks by and asks me what I'm doing. We commiserate over the number of dollars Retail America has managed to walk away with because we've forgotten to do this over the years. Which is followed immediately by this.

Me: Thank god. I feel so much better now.
Ed: ???
Me: :s C-bear was so flabbergasted when I told her I always forget. Like the very idea was a foreign concept.
Ed: Ah. No, no. The whole reason for rebate savings is because Retail America knows most people won't send it in.
Me: Exactly. I'm just another ordinary person. A forgetful, lazy, procrastinating kind of ordinary. My ordinariness helps keep Retail America running.
Ed: *amused* Yup.
Me: :x I love my friends, but sometimes they make me feel really, really dumb. And I'm not, really. Just, I happen to surround myself with extraordinary people who emphasize my ordinariness. Not that I'd ever say that to them. If I did, they'd give me that look. You know, the one that says they're worrying about my sense of self-worth again.
Ed: I think they'd probably say you weren't ordinary.
Me: I'm okay with being ordinary. I like ordinary. Just being around all the extraordinariness can be exhausting. Can you imagine being that extraordinary?
