Of Strawberry Cake and Kisses (A MaruDa Fanfic)
About a month ago, I had a chance to chat with my dear
sadaoru on YM. We talked about lots of things, mostly fangirl stuff, and we did a little RPG which starred our OTP - MaruDa of course ❤ The story turned out pretty well so I thought I might share ^^

Of Strawberry Cake and Kisses
It was 12:30 midnight... Ueda just made his not-so-usual closing remarks on his radio show with Maru... because he did it alone. Maru's at home, nursing a flu. He pretended to be bouncy and hyper as he was saying goodbye but couldn't do so somehow... He kept on thinking about his sick friend.
He phoned Maru, checking if he's still awake. And he was. Ueda asked if he could drop by his house and he was so happy when Maru answered yes. On his way there, he received a mail from Maru: "On your way here, can you get me some strawberry cake?" Okay, he thought. But little does he know the trouble that lies before him just because of a cake.
Nakamaru rolled over in is bed. The fever that was pressing down on his forehead and warming his entire body was too much to handle. He whimpered as his best friend promised to pick up some strawberry cake for him. He wasn’t sure why but he wanted to taste the little berry as soon as possible. It was his favourite and even when he was sick he wanted a taste.Nakamaru envisioned the small red berry and it’s shape but his imagination made the vision twist. Suddenly, the berry split and turned into a set of lips. Lips that were slightly pink but very full. Nakamaru wondered who he was imagining but didn’t question it. Instead, he felt himself get tugged into a deeper sleep.
So Ueda went to the nearest cake shop but when he got there, the last slice was already sold out. Tough luck, he thought. He checked the nearby coffee shop and two more shops after that- but still no cake. He never imagined it would be that hard to find just a slice. What puzzled him more was that Maru would buy some almost every week after their radio program and he never had a hard time finding it. Ueda wanted so bad to see Maru and it's getting delayed because he couldn't find what he was looking for. He checked the convenience store- unfortunately, they only had chocolate. No strawberry whatsoever.
On his way to another store, heavy rain started pouring. Damn. Heavy rain in the middle of summer. What luck. Wearing only a light-cotton hoodie, he continued his search, nevermind getting drenched by the heavy downpour.
Nakamaru woke up and rolled over towards his night stand. Red numbers glowed back at him telling him what time it was and it was late. 1:12am and Ueda was still not at his house. He hadn’t even called. Nakamaru reached over even though his body ached and grabbed his cell phone. He pressed the buttons he was very familiar with and dialled his radio partner’s cell phone.
He began to get worried as his answering machine picked up instead of Nakamaru being able to hear the sweet yet deep voice on the other line. Nakamaru whimpered and tossed over in his bed. Maybe Ueda wasn’t coming after all. Nakamaru guessed he wouldn’t get any strawberry cake tonight or any Ueda for that matter also.
Finally, he was able to find strawberry cake- the last slice. He was soaking wet and shivering but he never felt so happy. As he was rushing his way over to Maru's place, he stepped on a deep puddle and lost his balance... dropping the very important thing for his very important person...
Ueda started to panic. He didn't know what to do.
Since finding another slice seemed hopeless, he tried to be as creative as possible. He went back to the store, bought some fresh strawberries, vanilla ice cream and some fresh milk. He thought of making Maru strawberry milkshake. He hoped it would do.
Upon reaching his friend's house, he was surprised to find the door unlocked. He went inside, tried calling out Maru's name. But no one was answering. Ueda went directly to Maru's room and saw him sleeping. He sleeps like an angel, Ueda thought. Ueda approached the sleeping Maru as quietly as possible and sat down beside him. He touched Maru's forehead and it felt hot. Ueda felt so sorry for his friend... He also fought the urge to kiss him... but it was so overwhelming so he planted a kiss on his forehead instead.
Nakamaru felt something cold and wet against his forehead which caused his eyes to flutter open from the sensation. He enjoyed it and it felt very refreshing. He felt the cold source slide from his forehead to his cheek. He smiled weakly in response loving the feeling. His fingers reached up to take hold of whatever was delivering him such a great feeling. His eyes fluttered open as his fingers felt another pair of fingers. However, these were ice cold almost like death.
A vision of the grim reaper leaning over his sleeping body flashed into his mind which made him instantly thrash around his covers pushing the hand away from his. He hated anything scary and the grim reaper was one of the most terrifying!“GET AWAY FROM ME! I DON’T WANT TO DIE YET!” Nakamaru continued to thrash under his covers.
Ueda jumped from where he was sitting, he was as shocked as Maru was. "It's me" he calmed his friend down. "I'm sorry for startling you", he apologized.
Seeing that Maru didn't seem convinced, he took Maru's hand and placed it over his cheek. "It's just me, Maru, don't be afraid" he re-assured him.
Nakamaru tried to calm himself as he panted heavily only adding more to his sweat as he looked up at his best friend. He felt his heart suddenly thump hard in his chest as he looked at the other holding his hand against his face. Nakamaru could see the panic written across Ueda’s face which only made him feel extremely guilty. Nakamaru’s eyes widened as he realized his hand was on Ueda’s cheek and he still felt insanely cold. “You’re freezing…and…and wet!” Nakamaru spoke getting up from his position so quickly his head spun. He wasn’t worried about himself at this moment he was worried about the other sitting on his bed also catching a cold from his state.Nakamaru tugged himself from his bed only to stumble forward as his head continued to spin but he needed to get Ueda some dry clothes and a towel.
Ueda tried to stop Maru from tumbling forward, but he also lost his balance. They both ended up on the floor, Maru on top of him. Ueda could feel his cheeks blushing, and he quickly pushed Maru away from him. But Maru wasn't letting go. He was holding Ueda very tightly. "Are you okay?" he asked his friend. But Maru seemed to have lost his consciousness.
Ueda tried to stand up, using all his strength to carry his best friend back to his bed. Actually, he didn't want to let go. Being that close to Maru felt so good. But he was still wet and he needed to dry himself.
A couple of minutes later, Ueda got out from the bathroom already dry and wearing Maru's clothes. He sniffed the collar... it smelled lovely. Then he yawned. It was already 3 in the morning. "I wonder if it's okay if I sleep here", he thought. So Ueda invited himself and snuggled up to Maru, enveloped in his warmth and eventually fell asleep.
Nakamaru woke up feeling incredibly hot and thrashed off his covers but hit something quite hard in the process. He stopped fearing he was now sleeping with the grim reaper as he peeked over his shoulder in fear. He caught a glimpse of something that was a redish brown and turned up like fire. Nakamaru let out a little squeal hoping things were just his over active imagination.
Nakamaru turned completely to see what was half hogging his bed. When his eyes focused in the dark he felt his heart beat rapidly in his chest. He first blamed his flu but realized it was because of his feelings for the smaller. Nakamaru reached forward and moved the bangs that had fallen into Ueda’s eyes. The beat boxer leaned forward and watched the other sleeping peacefully.
The taller looked down only to feel himself grow hotter. He looked at the smaller male in a white button down shirt that was far too big for his body and Nakamaru realized it was his own. Ueda only the long white shirt on and had removed his pants. Ueda’s black boxers just barely showed from under the hem of the shirt. Ueda’s legs were tangled in the sheets as he slept happily. He leaned down and gently inhaled the soft scent of his own mixing with the smallers. He wanted to kiss the other but couldn’t as he knew how sick he really was but the smaller was almost leaving him no choice.
Ueda was awakened by a soft tingling sensation on his cheek... he peered his eyes open to find out the older guy's face so close to his, planting him light butterfly kisses.
He didn't stop the other guy. It felt too good. Ueda pretended to be still asleep, letting Maru kiss him all he want. But he wanted to reciprocate, so he turned his face towards Maru and kissed him back on the lips without a warning.
Nakamaru froze. He had thought the smaller had been sleeping the entire time. However, he felt Ueda’s lips firmly on his and pressing forward. He did’t know if he should continue to kiss the other or not. What if Ueda was sleeping and kissing him in his sleep dreaming about it being with someone else like Jin or Kame. Nakamaru didn’t move away but he didn’t move forward either he just sat still not sure what to do.
Ueda could feel Maru stiffen up a bit. He didn't want to pretend anymore. He opened his eyes and told him: "It's okay, kiss me all you want..." Then he kissed Maru even more passionately as he ran his fingers through his hair.
Nakamaru felt like it was his fever that was playing tricks on him., However, he welcomed the kisses the were being placed over his lips. He worried if Ueda would become sick as well. Although, Nakamaru had other questions on his mind. like when had Ueda started liking him? And why? Nakamaru pulled back looking at the other still leaning forward not wanting his lips to leave the beat boxers. "Why do you want me to kiss you?" Nakamaru asked weakly.
"I've always liked you", Ueda meekly responded. "Why do you think I'd go all the way just to get you some strawberry cake?", he asked Maru in a playful tone and started laughing softly. "Actually, I shoud be the one asking that... when did you start liking me?" He pulled Maru even closer to him.
Nakamaru looked down at the younger man that was pulling him forward closer to him. He felt his body heat up more and he knew, this time, it wasn't because of his cold. Nakamaru knew he had to answer the other and truthfully. "Do you remember when you wanted to quit Johnny's and you cried for almost 4 hours. Then to get back at Johnny we threw rocks at Johnny's car!" Nakamaru chuckled at the fond memory. It was ever since that day. I knew I couldn't live without you..." Nakamaru blushed finally revealing how he felt.
"It's been that long?", Ueda asked in amazement as he stared at the other guy's eyes lovingly. "I can't remember when I actually started falling for you... I've always cared about you but as a friend only. But there were times when we're not together and I sort of missed you, that's when I know you're very important to me", he said as a matter-of-factly.
He was about to kiss Maru again when he felt a tingling sensation running up his nose... Then without a warning, "Achoooo!" Ueda sneezed, in Maru's face!
"Oh shit, I think I'm gonna get sick too", he said.
"But I don't mind, at least we can both take a day or two off together" Ueda chuckled.
He moved closer to Maru... "Um, can I stay here for a while?"
Nakamaru smirked and wiped the germs from his face that Ueda had bestowed onto him. Nakamaru smiled and wrapped his arms aound the smaller hugging him tightly to his body. "How long do you want to stay?" Nakamaru asked wrapping the sheets around both of them. Nakamaru leaned forward and nudged Ueda gently with his nose and smiled.
"As long as you want me to" Ueda smiled back at Maru and gave him a light peck on his lips.
