This.

It's very rare for a young person to get funded for an idea like this without major amounts of influence.

Most 'young people' doing things like this do-so within the bounds of a pre-existing organization. i.e. Getting their church to sponsor it, getting an already non-profit to expand their operations to the area that the inspired individual wants to help in.

Once you get your degree, people's automatic respect will rise somewhat and money will be possible to raise. Not easier, just possible. Even then, they'll think you're just a kid, anyway.

If you still want to fund your own, I agree with nacirema_cult- get involved with groups that are already doing similar acts and get experience.

Here are a few sites:
A School Bell Rings They're currently in Africa, but have Latin american and asian eventual plans and are open to suggestions for locations.
The Amity Foundation works are in China.
Habitat for Humanities fixes and rebuilds schools. You can look into working with them. In fact, they have a contract with the local Dept. of Education see here

A lot of times, there are so many separate organizations trying to do the same thing that they overlap and spread out the funding so no one organization has enough money to complete their plans. Egos get in the way of accomplishment. See if any of the existing programs suit your dream and see if you can work with them instead of parallel to them.
