The last few days I've been reading what
Mangascreener has out for I'll/Generation Basket and I have so much love for this series it's really kind of scary. Really. I hadn't even heard of the series until a friend gave me the OVA DVD for Christmas as a totally random/desperate 'Oh, yeah, she likes that anime stuff and it's Christmas Eve and look! Pretty boys!' kind of gift. I was...somewhat baffled by the OVAs and didn't really think to track the manga down until last weekend, so...yes.
But! So good. Akane makes me smile because he's this huge dork and he doesn't care which makes him that much more squishable. I also have this huge love going for Yamazaki and Taikawa just because. (Actually, Taikawa reminds me a little bit of Joker from Flame of Recca, and he's just so...likable on his own. Yamazaki...he's just gorgeous. And er...I like him for his personality too, it's not all shallow-love for him. >_<)
And Minefuji! she who gropes her players! (Well, really only one of them, but still!) She is a wonderfully strong female character who I love to itty bitty pieces because she can be so evil, and yet she uses her powers for good. Mostly. (Poor Kanemoto. XD)
But yes. Good, good series, I love the sort of...nostalgic 'looking back' feel to it that I can identify with because as sucky as it could be sometimes, high school life did have it's moments, and this series feels like that to me. Like looking back on a treasured memory, and I'm probably not making that much sense, eh?
I honestly don't think there's a single character in this series that I actively dislike to the point of wanting to stab them in the face - there is great annoyance on my part regarding Hiragi's father and brother, but no actual stabby thoughts - and Sumire, the actual love interest for Akane is...cute. Adorable, even.
(Though if the spoiler I read about the ending is true it also kinda breaks my heart. And yet, if it is true, the ending also fits the tone/feel of the series perfectly. It makes sense, and is lovely in this bittersweet sort of way that's just brilliant.)
