Okay, so. I don't know? It's really nothing at all like what I was babbling about, and yet, I am amused. :D?

Steve's been. Brooding isn't quite right, because that implies he's dealing with some kind of tangle of complicated emotions aside from annoyance and resentment. Well, that, or is actually from some kind of Gothic novel, Danny isn't sure which. No. Steve has been sulking because the feds stepped in on a case they've been working. Something to do with an influx of experimental weapons the government's been working on that fell into the wrong hands.

Steve's sulking because he doesn't have the necessary clearance to get any useful information about the case, and the people who do have the clearance have been camping out at Five-0 HQ for the better part of a week.

Kono's found a kindred spirit in the other team's communications specialist, and Chin has found someone to commiserate with. Well, actually. Danny doesn't know what the guy does, other than stand around looking mildly disapproving and annoyed without actually having facial expressions. How he goes around with a damn toboggan cap in Hawaii without getting crap from anyone would be a mystery, if it weren't for the fact that he has this way of looking at people like he can kill them with his brain.

"What kind of security - "

"Hey, hey, accidents happen, right?"

Kirk, the other team lead, has Steve's number. He's been doing nothing but pushing his buttons left and right, acting like this whole nightmare mess is no big deal, really. Nothing to worry about, they'll take care of everything, and also, coffee would be nice, thanks.

"Kill me now."

Danny smirks at McCoy. He likes the guy because apparently he's the poor bastard tasked with keeping Kirk from getting himself killed. The rest are more like observers, along for the ride whether they like it or not.

Chekov has some kind of ill-advised hero-worship going on when it comes to Kirk, which. Danny gets. People like Steve and Kirk are shiny and exciting, bigger than life. But they're also people. Stupid, stupid people.

At least Sulu's there to keep Chekov from getting in over his head.

And then there's Scott. Danny has the feeling the guy's more than a little crazy, but he has something closer to common sense that Kirk obviously lacks.

Danny can't help but notice, however, that Kirk's team obviously respects him, if they're following his lead. They may not always agree with his methods - something Danny understands - but they have faith in him, follow him, and that has to mean something.

Danny doesn't know what he's done, what he could have done in this life or any other, to deserve this kind of luck.

The case is over, everyone more or less in one piece. The weapons have been recovered and the bad guys are safely behind bars, score one for justice. Or maybe luck and sheer random chance, Danny's given up on trying to figure out which.

Someone, Danny thinks it might have been Chekov, or maybe Scott, suggested they go out for drinks to celebrate, and now -

"Oh my God," Kono says, sounding awed. "I never thought something like this could happen outside of movies."

Danny gives her a look because she's young yet, and doesn't quite know all the ways in which the world is more than cheerful to screw you over if you're not careful. The fact that there's someone in the world who may be even worse than Steve is proof of that.

"It's amazing."

Danny or Chin should probably have a talk with her about how starting a bar fight is hardly a good thing, especially for someone who is expected to uphold the law, but really, fuck it.

Danny sighs and looks at McCoy. The poor bastard looks resigned, defeated. Like he's had to wade into more than one bar fight to save his team leader. "Drink?" Danny asks. He has faith in Steve to hold his own in a brawl against drunken idiots, and Kirk seems to be doing fine.

McCoy slides a look at him, mouth a crooked line of annoyance. "God, yes," he mutters, glowering at the rest of his team who are watching the brawl with expressions varying from amusement to McCoy's resignation.

The bartender knows Five-0, so he doesn't seem to mind the way Steve and Kirk and all of their new friends are tearing the place apart, secure in the knowledge the governor will foot the bill.

Kirk's team must have a place like this back wherever they call home because he doesn't ask questions, just holds onto the drink the bartender slides over like it's the only thing keeping him sane.

Still, for all that McCoy bitches about Kirk and his idiocy, Danny notices he's following the fight. Tracking his boss, and right. Right, like Kono or Chin or Kirk's own people won't hesitate to step in if Steve and Kirk need help.

"Don't worry," Danny says, leaning over to be heard over the din, gesturing at their respective teams. He notices money changing hands, a few times. "They've got things covered."

McCoy slides him a look, eyes narrowed for a moment, and then he smiles. Faint, almost grudging. "This kind of thing happen a lot?"

Danny shrugs. Bar fights are actually fairly rare with Steve. "Close enough," he answers. Compared to the usual shit Steve gets up to, a bar fight is nothing.

McCoy looks at him for a long moment, and when he smiles this time, his entire face gets into the act. "You poor bastard," he says, but there's nothing like pity in it.

Danny laughs, glances over to where some big bruiser's got Kirk backed up against a pool table, oblivious to Steve coming up behind him with a bloody smile, obviously enjoying this because he's insane. "You have no idea," Danny says, and raises his glass to McCoy's.
