(no subject)
Work is bad, because there are people who will ask questions such as, "Did you ever see Splash?" and then there will be discussions about mermaids and how they work (and someone will suggest Gypsy Curse because they are secretly awesome) because it's been so long since you actually saw the movie that you don't remember much.
And then! And then you will wonder if this is why Danny tells Steve he swims for survival, not fun because you are that person. You will also remember that scene in the bathtub (around the five minute mark), and you will laugh forever and not be able to explain why Danny the angry merman is hilarious because they will not understand, and, oh, how sad that will be. :(
Steve kicks the door in even though Danny yelled at him to keep his ass on the other side of the door because it's important for people in relationships (only Danny's not sure they're actually in a relationship so much as they're Doing A Thing) to respect boundaries and shit, and oh, fuck, how does he explain this?
Steve stares for a long, long moment that becomes less of a moment and more of a series of moments and from there into something that could probably be phrased as being a period of time. And then his eyes dart around the bathroom like he's looking for something to ground himself, help him come to terms with Danny and Danny's tail and seriously, how is Danny supposed to explain?
"...Huh," Steve says, sounding dazed and confused and trying to cover for it. "That's where the salt went."
Danny watches Steve as he picks the salt up and wanders out of the room, barely missing braining himself on the door frame as he goes.
Later, Danny will tell Steve about his family and Gypsy Curses and will be pretty sure Steve isn't actually listening because he's still stuck on the part where Danny is sometimes a merman and has scales and a tail and can literally swim like a fish, but for now there is Danny in Steve's bathtub and his goddamned tail and Steve stumbling around his own house like his world has been turned upside down.
