My focus is all over the place today. I spent some time earlier researching hamsters (and cracking up so, so much). I learned things about hamsters I didn't know when I actually had some. Still. Hamsters! So tiny! So adorable!

Also. Ahahaha. I'm still trying to figure out how to write the one where Bob is a Gruff Mountain Man? But there was this one scene that I really wanted to write from when restless_jedi and I were throwing ideas at one another. (It's pretty much useless fluff, but that's okay! :D)

Joe doesn't really sound worried when he calls to ask if Frank's seen Hemingway around. It takes Frank a moment to remember who Hemingway is, and then there's a minor flash of annoyance because it's not like it would have killed Wentz to take his dog back to the city with him.

“No, no, no,” Joe says in Pete's defense. “Pete loves Hemmy, he just doesn't want to stress him out with the whole travel thing.”

Frank rolls his eyes at that, but Joe's still talking. “So you know, if you see him send him home. His show's on tonight.”

“Joe?”

Joe laughs and Frank realizes that it would probably be best if Joe sat this one out. In fact, it would probably be best if Joe laid off the mind-altering substances when he's supposed to watching Wentz's dog, but -

“Oh, and tell Mikey he left some stuff here when he was over yesterday,” Joe says. A moment later there's a squeak, Joe laughing, and then a lot more squeaking while Joe completely loses it.

Frank knows he's pretty much lost Joe to the joys of a squeaky chew toy, so he tells him he'll do his best to find Wentz's dog and hangs up.

The thing is, there's a lot of places for a dog to get lost around town, and even more out in the woods. Hemingway's smart for a dog, and he wouldn't be able to get too far in the short amount of time Joe said he went missing, which still leaves a hell of a lot of places for him to wander off to.

And then Frank realizes Joe might have given him a good starting place.

The drive out to Gerard and Mikey's place doesn't take that long. When he gets there he follows the little trail leading from the back of the house to a shed a few hundred feet away from the house. It's more of a workshop where Gerard keeps his larger work and equipment, away from prying eyes and surrounded by forest.

Hemingway adores Mikey.

Frank cracks the hell up when he discovers that apparently that doesn't change even when Mikey does.

Hemingway trots along next to Mikey, stubby little tail going like crazy, when Mikey comes out of the shed to see him.

“So I guess I can call the search off,” Frank says.

Gerard's laying down in the shade, but he looks up at that with a curious tilt to his head.

Frank shrugs and takes a seat on the ground next to him, watching Hemingway and Mikey. “Joe called and told me he lost Hemmy.”

There's a little snorting sound, and Frank grins. “They're kind of cute, you know?” Frank says, watching Hemmy trying to get Mikey to play with him.

Gerard shakes his head, and it's like waving a red flag at a bull because Hemmy lets go of Mikey's ear and charges over to them, bypassing Frank completely to climb all over Gerard.

Frank moves over a little to give Hemmy more room, grinning at the slit-eyed glare Gerard gives him for that act of betrayal. Hemmy barks when Gerard stands up and walks a few feet away before laying down again.

There's a moment of quiet, Hemmy cocking his head, ears pricked, and then he runs over to Gerard and tries to climb on him all over again.

Frank just watches, wishing he could tape the whole thing when Gerard keeps getting up to move someplace else with Hemmy following along. Hemmy gets more and more worked up because he thinks it's a game, and Gerard keeps throwing him and Mikey looks, like he really thinks they're going to rescue him from a puppy.

After a while Hemmy loses interest in trying to climb on Gerard when he realizes that hey, Gerard has a tail now, and starts to go after that. Frank has to intervene when Gerard's ears go back, a clear sign that he's really, really not happy about that idea.

A few minutes spent digging through the shed results in Frank finding a battered ball for Hemmy to chase. Mikey gives the equivalent of a sigh and goes into the shed to take a nap.

Frank picks a spot to sit where he can keep an eye on Hemmy and stay out of the sun. Gerard comes over to lay down next to him, resting his head on his paws, eyes following Hemmy as he runs all over the place after the ball Frank keeps throwing for him.

“Exciting day?”

Gerard growls, which just makes Frank's grin widen.

“Hey, come on. He's like a kid.” Frank's probably going to regret this when Gerard turns back, but seriously, how damn adorable is it that Hemingway thinks Mikey and Gerard are the best playmates a dog could have? “Show a little heart, Gerard.”

Gerard lifts his head and looks at Frank, and oh man, Gerard is not thrilled, but seriously. This is hilarious.

“Oh, right, like you wouldn't think this was funny, either.” Frank rolls his eyes and reaches out to scratch Gerard's ears.

Gerard just leans into Frank, wordlessly asking for more scratches, and Frank has to bite his lip to keep from laughing.
