Oh,
eeee!
This is something I've wanted to see more of for a long, long time with SGA. Part of the reason I've loved SG-1 so much for so long was the real sense of family you get from watching the show, the way everyone genuinely cares for one another. You could see that, yes, they really did hang out with one another during their downtime, that they liked and respected one another, that they truly hurt when they lost one of their own, and I love those kinds of relationships. (I suspect everyone does, because it's what everyone wants, in a way.)
With SGA you don't get that as much, and with good reason, because the show is different from SG-1, was always meant to be different and had a 'bigger' story to tell. With SG-1 it's all about Team because Team is all they have to rely on when they go off-world, and if you don't learn to trust and respect the people that have your life in their hands, you tend to get dead fast. With SGA it's not so much about Team as it is the entire Expedition, because they're not on familiar ground and don't have the advantages and resources of the SGC or even Earth to fall back on (initially). SGA is about Atlantis herself, other members of the expedition besides Shepard's team (Weir, Carson, Zelenka, etc., etc., etc.) and the way they interact with one another and finds ways to adapt to life in Pegasus.
So for the writers to decide to...I don't know, buckle down and focus a little more on team interaction/relationships in season three is a good thing. They've had time to establish the show and for the characters to develop distinct personalities, and now that things aren't quite so desperate for the expedition we'll be able to see how relationships have formed over the past two years. I'm a little worried that the writers might lose focus regarding the direction of the show or that they might push a little too hard in one direction or another with the whole 'we like each other, really' aspect of things, but for the most part I'm looking forward to more team interaction and signs of friendship and respect that don't require squinting really hard. (Don't get me wrong, though, there have been amazing Team and character moments in SGA over the past two seasons, but this news really has me excited about season three. :D)
