It was hard, sometimes.
Harder than anyone else realized.
It didn't matter how horrible he felt.
It didn't matter how depressed he was, or how angry, or how upset.
Every morning, he had to wake up and brush off his true feelings like they didn't exist.
He had to paint the smile on, like his make-up people would paint his face later, and pretend that all was well in his world.
It was who he was.
It was what he did.
And some days, watching Ryuichi pout and brood or Ryohei scold and lecture, he wondered when exactly he'd volunteered to be the cheerful one.
