More reasons ...

... to observe certain parts of the Avengers/Thor fandom from a safe distance: the elitist bitches.

Apparently if you're expressing your interest in Norse mythology you are the lowest kind of person. "You're only interest in it now so you can find new inspiration for your woobie Loki fic." GOD FORBID PEOPLE EDUCATE THEMSELVES!

I thought that was one of the good things about fandom, you learn so many diverse things through your hobby, essentially even people who dislike academic studying can find entertaining ways to educate themselves. So why if it's to write fanfiction? Who cares?

What is the "right way to do it?" Be born when the first Thor comic was published? OK then 80% of the fandom can now leave.

I mean it's not that I don't understand where you're coming from. I too, get annoyed when an anime adaptation of a long-running manga airs and new fans are like "OMG HOT DUDES" etc. and don't really bother with the available source material (not to mention everyone asks about scanlations instead of getting off their lazy ass and buy the damn books themselves!)

But with a manga, you can actually catch up with ALL the material by reading a few volumes. With comics? Impossibru. This is actually more frustrating than you might think, knowing that you will NEVER graps the entire universe is utterly de-motivating (for my part) So I usually buy an "origins" anthology or the few books that have an interesting arc (Lady loki etc.).

Oh and Norse mythology? Got into it in 2004 because of the manga series Matantei Loki (absolutely NO relation to our Avengers Loki, in fact Loki the detective is the good guy of an admittedly cheesy series with cute art -it sometimes pop up when I google Avengers/Loki, and I get a kick out of it ^^).
Now do I MUST be an idiotic hipster about this and "I knew about norse mythology before you even heard of the Avengers initiative in 2008"? No, I don't. It doesn't matter how/where/when/why you educate yourself. As long as you do and are happy about this new knowledge, who are they to judge you?

(this rant was overdue. It could have been about many other things, like the Shinsengumi -the Hakuoki game fandom is sorta like this, they look down on the anime fans. Guess what, Shinsengumi and books/fiction about them existed before your precious otome game about them did, I didn't wait for the boys to look hot to take an interest in the Bakumatsu era.)

rant, ignore me please, avengers, people are stupid
