Anti - OTP: Symphony of Discord
This would serve as my entry for the Anti-OTP challenge by
obakesan. No kittens were harmed in making this FST. However, brain cells died and blood pressure rose as a result of this creative torture endeavor.
First of about the series. Yu-Gi-Oh is a popular anime and manga by Kazuki Takahashi. It ran in Weekly Jump from 1996 to 2004. The story revolved around the adventures of a young boy named Mutou Yuugi along with his friends after he solved a mysteries puzzle that happened to store the soul of an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh who has never been beaten in any game. Most of the events in the series centered around the Millenium Items (ancient Egyptian relics) and the card game Duel Monsters. Contrary to popular belief, the series is darker than what was shown in the English version of the anime.

The Characters:
Jounouchi Katsuya (Joey Wheeler in the English Dub) - is a 16 year old student in Domino High who happens to be Yuugi's best friend, one of his cheerleaders and a good duellist in his own right. He has a sister named Shizuka who started to go blind sometime in the series. In order to finance his sister surgery, he joined Duelist Kingdom. His duelling style lies more on luck although his tactical skills can't be sneezed at.
Jounouchi is a loud mouth and a hothead. He is friendly, wide-open kind of person and is fiercely loyal. He'd do anything for those he cares about, particularly his sister and his friends. In the manga, Jounouchi is poor because of the gambling debts and alcoholism of his father. He went to great lengths just to pay off those debts to the point of working on multiple jobs just to do so.
Kaiba Seto - is the main love intererst rival of Mutou Yuugi in the series. Unlike Jounouchi, Kaiba is a billionaire and is the CEO of his own multinational company, KaibaCorp. One of his main aim is to be the world's top duellist and much to his chagrin, Mutou Yuugi blocks the path in totally achieving that goal. Self-centered and arrogant, he will not hesitate in doing almost anything in achieving his goal early on in the series. He has a younger brother named Mokuba who he would do anything to protect to the point of sacrificing his life.
Seto Kaiba does not believe in magic (at least in the greater part of the series). He is cold, calculating and ruthless. He does not care for friendship and all that Yuugi and his friends kept on spouting. He trusts no one (his brother is always an exception) and does not accept failure easily. However, he tries to follow his own sense of justice and honor most of the time. Like Jounouchi, he cares deeply for those he considers important and would go to great lengths for them.
Why Jou x Seto:
In the series, Jounouchi and Seto are often seen fighting with each other. Seto can't almost bear the presence of Jounouchi and more often than not calls him make inu (loser dog). Jounouchi on his part can't take Seto's arrogance and cold behavior.
What makes this pair tick is that beneath the so-called dislike they have for each other, both are drawn and fascinated by the other person. Their relationship won't be all sunshines and daisies. No it will be stormy, turbulent and tension-filled. It would be a fight for dominance that would in most cases end up in a compromise.
They both have what it takes to make the relationship work without getting bored with each other.
