In most crossover fanfics that I have read involving the HP universe, the aspects of the HP universe has always been glorified. 2 out 3 crossover fanfics have the other characters coming from another universe (let's say Yu-Gi-Oh) reacting like, 'OMG liek wizards and witches exist? teh cool.' If their reactions are not like that the characters are in total awe of the HP universe that they start acting like blathering idiots when in fact they are the most sensible of characters before. More often than not, the aspects which make the other series unique are more often just glossed over and totally forgotten.
Let's not forget on how Harry and company suddenly becomes close friends with the protagonists coming from the other world. This irks me the most when the said characters were just suddenly thrown into the HP universe. Come on, Yami Bakura just suddenly being all friendly with Harry and company and giving his trust? You got to be kidding me. Bakura who would kill without remorse? Bakura the devious thief who was able to steal from a well-guarded tomb? Bakura who lusts for power and world domination? The hell no.
On the contrary, while our characters from the non-HP series are all trusting and such, we have here the HP characters harboring doubts towards these people. (Of course they would especially Hermione and Snape because they are teh smarts -__-;; Goodness knows that there should be more sensible characters and smarter characters than these two. My god even Youko Kurama and Shikamaru would not be able to beat them when it comes to smartness. No sir, heaven forbid that happens.)
And why do all good characters coming from the other series always sorted into Griffindor? Since when did all of protagonists from other series have all the characterteristics that would fit into Griffindor? You tell me. Using my previous example up there. Yami Bakura as a Griffindor is a bloody joke. And if we're going to use his host Ryou Bakura, he'd be more likely to end up in Hufflepuff.
When it comes for the HP characters to mixed into another universe, they also become smarter, stronger and better adjusted than the characters who are in fact the bloody protagonists of the damn series without ample support as to why did that happen except for the fact that they are bloody HP characters! Argh!
