A/N: I hope I haven’t lost all my writing skills after a month of not writing anything. And because it’s rare to have a good KameDa fic, I recommend my soulmate’s
KameDa fic, probably one of the best I’ve ever read. Enjoy~ Constructive criticisms are so much welcomed, as always. ^^
Kame instinctively rubbed his right cheek while watching his band mates fooling around during their break of rehearsal. Junno was bugging people with his new DS, Nakamaru still acted as if he was the big brother. And the view of Koki and Ueda conversing somehow brought Kame back into years back, when they were still hot-headed youngsters, when they were known as the group who fought a lot, when Jin was still part of them. It had always amazed Kame how they had grown up to be such friends. No one would’ve guess how horrible Ueda and Koki had once fought considering how well they were getting along these days. Kame could feel his fingers starting to scratch his right cheek. It’s weird, how Ueda fought with Jin and Koki, but he ended up getting along very well with those two. Come to think of it, Kame never really got into too many fights with Ueda - not as much as Koki and Jin. There was only one. The one when he was being bitchy, but Ueda didn’t answer back, he threw a punch instead. That was the only one, the one that marked the infamous fight in KAT-TUN’s history, as well as their relationship.
Kame remembered when Jin left for his first hiatus. Ueda was the one who convinced him Jin would return. Kame could still remember the image of the copper hair standing behind him during interviews. Every pearly smile makes Kame’s breath hitch in his throat. Nonetheless, Kame carried on, hoping and waiting, dreaming and wanting, hating and loving. And when Jin finally returned, with every music of ‘Kazu’ lingering upon Jin’s lips gave him rise of hope. Kame thought Ueda brought the light for him. But when Jin finally left for good, his heart broke all over again. And Ueda didn’t convince him like before. He thought life would be dull. He had waited, and waited. He wasn’t even sure if he actually waited for Jin to come back, or maybe just for some comfort from someone else.
Kame almost fell apart, so utterly and completely he thought he was never going to be put together again. But his band mates had been holding on to him, and he thought it was his responsibility to at least stay strong. He tried to feel better, but memories and the past wouldn't leave him alone. But Kame tried, taking those little pieces of his broken heart and put them in his blood, in a try to keep them still in him and in a hope that someone will put them back together.

Kame got up pretty quickly for a broken heart, and he ventured out into the busy life, to mingle with the people and tried to feel better. It felt like learning to walk again, going step by step, and unconsciously found himself standing in the front line once more.
Later on his birthday night he sat in his bed, it was just beyond midnight and he unconsciously remembered the days when Jin usually came and celebrated his birthday together. He felt disappointed at one point, but settled down with just a sigh. The next day his band mates came baring gifts and words of praise, and they shared some laughter in their birthday gift exchange game.
“You really should stop that,” Ueda finally spoke when their band mates were too busy playing - or rather quarrelling - about Junno’s boasting of leading their birthday game.
Kame, with his eyes already glazed over, rose them to look at the boxer. “What are you talking about?”
Ueda looked away, and sighed. “You need to stop fixing yourself.”
“What? Why?” disappointment coated his voice thickly. It felt as if his hard effort wasn’t appreciated. He did it for his band mates after all.
Ueda looked back, straight in his pretty eyes and Kame felt as if the elder can see all of him, even the hidden parts, parts that he locked away long ago - Ueda can see all of him and he wasn’t sure if it was a good thing or not.
“Because sometimes, it's good to be broken, if you're broken in all the right places.” Ueda shifted uncomfortably at first. “You were the one who taught me of teamwork, we should bare this together.”
At that very moment, Kame felt pieces of his heart pulled together and made their way to their rightful position. He could feel those old walls of ignorance and denial crumbled and trembled, shaken and fell apart. Piece by piece they shattered, slowly and almost achingly and he can feel himself become more and more elated, light and completely free. Once again, Kame felt Ueda had given him hope, as if he gave Ueda the beginning of something good and Ueda gave him the ending of something bad. Just what they both needed.

One whole year passed, Kame thought the band had become closer than ever before. Never had he thought he would receive texts from his band mates while filming dramas, sitting at restaurants, sometimes joking or remembering, sometimes in silence and sometimes he spoke while they listened with that old spark in their eyes and Kame felt the happiest he has been in a very long time.
Kame thought his band took a lot of joined effort for them to stitch up the friendship, to glue the pieces together in a try to be better, stronger, more, just more. They barely made it, just enough for them to feel that something shifted, something changed and transformed before their very eyes. And Kame neglect the fact that his friendship with Ueda was no more, but instead there was something they both fear to confess.
Kame knew that this time around he was the one that do all the chasing and he couldn't shake the feeling that he was going to fail in this too, just like he did before. It frustrated Kame a bit, knowing there was only one time they fought, and Ueda had been oblivious towards him ever since. Maybe the fact that Ueda had once hated him contributed to that part. Kame was, in fact, the only one whom Ueda never showed his childish side among all KAT-TUN members. They were a bit too formal to begin with.
“Kamenashi-san, you should really have a break and get yourself some lunch. Don’t overwork yourself, will you,” Ueda Shinya patted his shoulder, successfully pulling Kame out of thought. Just then he realized the Going crews were scattered, preparing for a lunch break.
“I need to do some revise about my script. You guys just go ahead,” Kame answered politely.
Shinya sighed, patting Kame’s shoulder another few times before looking into Kame’s eyes. “I met my ‘brother’ from your band before, and he asked me to look after you. I’m not going to let you abandon yourself for work now, am I?”
It took Kame a while to register what his co-worker was talking about, but sooner he realized it has something to do with Ueda. And he just couldn’t suppress a grin forming along his lips. It wasn't much of a confession, but it was a good enough sign for him. Once again, he saw the ray of hope, lining so clearly ahead of him - as it always had.

“What are you grinning at?” Ueda asked in annoyance. It was late night when they finished their PV shooting. Ueda thought it wasn’t a nice way to end the day. “And just when I thought we finally get the old you back,” the boxer mumbled under his breath.
“Nothing,” Kame shrugged, but his grin never died. “I just think I’m in love with you.” Kame didn’t give Ueda any chance to retort though, as his hand gently stroked Ueda’s baldy head and carefully pulled the boxer into a kiss. He could feel Ueda flinched a bit, but returned the kiss moments after. And his grin was still there. He felt strangely warm on his right cheek, the same feeling when Ueda punched him years ago. It felt burning, but in a very pleasant way.
Ueda never said anything about it, but Kame didn’t mind. He didn’t expect much about that anyway. This was Ueda he dealt with after all. What more he should ask for? And they both knew that sometimes silence speaks more.
Later that month when they sat for another magazine interview, they needed to answer some trivias before proceeding to the real interview. Kame blinked at one question; your favorite part of your body. “My right cheek,” he answered, and grinned when his friends and the magazine staffs laughed.
“Why right cheek? What happen to your left?” Koki chuckled and earned nods of agreement from the others.
Kame never properly answered that question. The warm burning feelings he felt the moment Ueda threw a punch to his right cheek at the Shock backstage, it was long history, and it never left any bruises. But it still felt warm up until today - a pleasant warm feeling. As if it waited long enough to be harvested, and opened up a new path instead.
Glancing at Ueda’s blushing face, Kame decided to keep it a secret forever. He was born again in Ueda’s every laugh and he could peacefully sleep in the light of Ueda’s hope. And memories served like glue to keep them together, somewhat whole and finally full, maybe even complete - because he was the man that came back and Ueda was the man that waited.
~The End~
A/N: Took me long enough to finish, but well, I always wanted to write something about Ueda’s subtle concern towards Kame~ Constructive criticisms are always welcomed~ :D
