I am trying REALLY HARD to change my own mind, because I don't like being so upset and betrayed, OBVIOUSLY. And since there is no way I will be able to stop caring an unhealthy amount, I just need to sway myself to the other side so I can enjoy it instead of getting all worked up.

It was obvious it only happened once, and he was desperate and fucked up and half drunk and and really needed some comfort, ANY comfort, and she's CRAWLING ON HIM and TALKING LIKE DEAN and there's no one alive in there to hurt and he just NEEDS SO MUCH and wants to forget about the horror that is his life, and she's RIGHT THERE, and Dean ISN'T. And then afterwards, it all comes crashing down, and he's HORRIFIED and guilty at what he did, even if he didn't rape anyone, and what it says about how low he's sunk. I thought it was really beautifully played on Jared's part, and I'm starting to find Ruby's obvious love -- as much as demons can love, and oh ouch -- for Sam to be heartbreaking, especially because she KNOWS it's only a stopgap because Dean isn't there. It was ALL ABOUT DEAN, and Sam feels like shit for a) fucking a demon b) who is inhabiting a corpse and c) merely using her as a substitute for his brother, and it's obvious he HATES that it happened, even if it seemed to make sense in the moment, and is embarrassed and guilty

I could sense from the get-go where the episode was going with the Sam/Ruby thing, and even though I didn't want it to happen and was kinda icked at the beginning (before the hotness that is Jared obliterated all thought processes... yes, I am easily distracted) it wasn't as horrible as I was dreading, mainly for the reasons you said. It totally fitted with the whole fucked-upness of Sam at that point, and I like that they a) resolved the issue over her host body, and b) did not try to push it as an OTP or anything. Like you said, it was the absence of Dean that made it possible, and while I didn't think the writers would even think about subtracting from the SamnDean, it's nice to have something like this *reinforce* the brotherly codependence :D
Dude, yes! And I also appreciated that the Sam/Ruby is very clearly NOT some kind of OTP love interest, but a temporary relationship based on grief-fuelled fucking. *nods*
