Hee! Dude, make this a post in your lj, if you haven't already -- it's really fascinating stuff.

I totally get your point about assumptions of familial intimacy, and how problematic that is. I think that's why the incest narratives I go for fascinate me so much. setssima once said something to the effect of, for "normal" sibling relationships, tossing sexual desire into the mix fundamentally alters the nature of the relationhip. But the thing that gets me about Sam and Dean is that if you add desire, it doesn't really... do anything to the relationship except *intensify* it. The most important and best thing in each other's lives? Check. Obsessive co-dependence? Check. Each other's biggest weakness? Check. Soul-destroying, hell-raising, world-ending LOVE? Check. To a certain extent, it doesn't even MATTER if they're fucking, because they've already got the Grand Passion for the Ages!

It's really interesting what our kinks let us handwave, isn't it? Like, I can totally handwave away all the, as you said, dark ramifications of living in Incestuous Sin; but the Seriously Fucked Up Character thing hat you love, I have a tougher time with -- unless they're the type of fucked up who could be made HAPPY by living in incestuous sin!

As for love-confession stuff, I misspoke a bit -- I don't necesssarily need a spoken declaration of love, just, y'know, an unequivacol MOVE to be made. Which is confession of a sort. I didn't know that the stylized "confession" was so much a part of yaoi; interesting!
