So, my copy of The Elements of Style showed up today, to the confusion of my mom. She looked at the book, then looked at me, and finally asked if I'd known what I was getting. Heh. Of course, later on when my brother and I were skimming through it and quietly squeeing over bits of it, she pointed out she might have to borrow/read it at some point. As did my bro. And my dad. ::chuckle::
'Course the whole reason I got it is they didn't really teach us grammar in school. Not properly, at least.
A favorite bit:
The truth is... The fact is... A bad beginning for a sentence. If you feel you are possessed of the truth, or of the fact, simply state it. Do not give it advance billing.
I love how am amusingly blunt the whole thing is.
