A proposition.

LJ is old and gross and dumb and completely bogged down by shitty ads.

Tumblr is sort of like LJ, if LJ was lean and trim and wasn't bogged down by shitty ads. And, y'know, people actually used it.

Anybody interested in switching over?

Because I'm definitely not interested in keeping my LJ.

What are these ads you speak of. I see none.

Uhhhh I'm using whatever tier of subscription shows you ads in exchange for giving you more userpics. Once upon a time, when the ads were only non-intrusive banner ads and people actually used this site with some degree of regularity, it was a worthwhile trade.

Currently, though, LJ's decided it has a huge boner for pop-up video ads that need to load before you can access the main page, and so I wind up spending a minute or so waiting for the ad to load and get out of my way, and then roughly half the time looking at my friends page and seeing that there's no new posts.

There are two solutions, of course. One is for me to cut out some avatars and switch back to the most basic plan (which would solve one of my gripes with LJ), or I could simply stop using it (which would solve all of my gripes with it). Currently I'm leaning towards the latter.

Or you could join the rest of us here in 2010 and use an ad blocker

Oh boy you are so smart and I am so dumb Frost! I should just use an ad blocker, gosh! It's so simple, I can't believe I haven't tried that already.

Oh wait I already did. And it didn't work. If the ad isn't allowed to load, it prevents the rest of the page from loading properly.

Honestly? Probably not.

We're attached to LJ, and have been for years. We still use YIM to talk to most everyone. Why? It's fairly dated and doesn't do much fancy, but we use it because it's how we are used to communicate. I'm sure many of us also use LJ that have friends that aren't necessarily part of the ex-LLF community or its surrounding sites. I don't really feel like maintaining two blogs, and though my comments and entries can be sparse, I check it daily. I'm sure many others feel the same way.

More power to you if you want to dump LJ, though. I've just never had a problem with it.

Yeah I'm on the same plan somehow?? I apparently just magically don't get them.

Or it could be adblock, I don't know. :B

I've actually been thinking about starting an actual blog, so I wouldn't mind the move.

This place is pretty dead. I almost think people don't write here very much anymore because our YIM community is pretty far gone. Besides that, it seems awkward to write about life when you have posts from when you were 13 and most of the writing is all about the old drama we used to have. I agree with Kit here, I think moving would restore some life into the whole thing. At the very lest it'd be a fresh start, which I'm looking for.

That being said right now might be difficult. It's the middle of the school year so not everyone has a whole lot of time. I'm totally up for it because my classes don't require that much work currently, but I don't know who all else is.

On the various corners of LJ I frequent, I've seen people mention that there is some variety of ad blocker successfully neutralizes the ads. Don't know the specifics, since the ads don't bother me overmuch, but it supposedly exists. Probably wouldn't be a bad thing to look into.

Anyway, I'll probably just be sticking to LJ. I don't update much, but I RP, and do other things. I do understand where you're coming from, though.
