LYRICS THREETEASER and Other Fine Diversions

Jun 12, 2009 20:52

No rewards this time, just a little puzzle to pass the time. The following are song lyrics; your goal is to figure out what the lyrics (or the songs they have in question) have in common.

1) I thought this one was too easy, so I decided the lyrics were only going to be only two words each.

red light
kangaroo belongs
studied 'pataphysical
little heartbreaker
Kubla Khan
poison paradise
workman's wages
Nantucket bound
ninteen for

2) This one is a bit more subtle than you might think! Once you think you get it, make sure you get it get it.

I don't know, but I've been told a big-legged woman ain't got no soul.
I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines; wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves.
People tend to pass you over 'cause you're not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water, or stars in the sky.
The war machine springs to life - opens up one eager eye.
I want to be your lover. I want to wrap you in rubber...
House boy knows that he's doin' all right - you should've heard him just around midnight.
As we live beneath the seas, every one of us has all he needs.
We are agents of the free. I've had my fun and now it's time to serve your conscience overseas.
Well, it's one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, now go, cat, go!

3) This was definitely harder to write than it will be to solve!

I've listened to preachers; I've listened to fools.
I never wanted to be your weekend lover. I only wanted to be some kind of friend.
There's a fossil that's trapped in a high cliff wall. There's a dead salmon frozen in a waterfall.
I'm hanging on the ropes of hope. It's getting hard to cope, you know...
Now he's caught - a nasty sort of person. They gave him time. Doors bang, chain gang - he hates it!
Her life was like a desert flower burning in the sun. Until I found the way to love, it's harder said than done.
And though she feels as if she's in a play, she is anyway.
As I turned to sand, you took me by the hand and declared that love prevails over all.

ON TO OTHER NEWS.

My birthday is in, like a month. July 20th. Wow! I'm going to be 18 years old. I know that some of you lovely people have been 18 for years now but for me, this is sort of a big deal! I'm going to get a shiny new laptop. Yes.

Tox! Tox tox tox tox ugh. Okay for those of you who do not know where to find The Final Boss is Toxicuatro, it is here and you should all join it if you are awesome and you should not join it if you are sucky. I am going to be hauling through signup sheets this weekend! And maybe writing a bit more of the plot? Probably not though, because I'd much rather get some drawing done.

A lot more folks are getting out of school, so let's talk about InkLink! It's pretty goddamned fun, guys. We should play it some! It would be nice. And on the topic of games, I'd really love to do some more Wii online stuff, particularly Mario Kart, so hey, give me your FCs!

Usually when I bend your collective ear I include some tasty link morsels from various internets I've been sampling, but this time I have a whole goddamned buttbucket of things to share with you folks!

Okay so let's start with videos! Yes. First we have this which seems kind of dumb but seriously, watch until the end. Also don't read the comments. No, it's not a screamer.

This is hilarious but I'm not going to tell you what it is.

Whoa there watch out ragtime covers of video game music comin' on through! Here and here and here. And yeah, there's more where that came from (such as Humoresque of a Little Dog!). If you're, like, at all interested in video games or pianos this guy's whole goshdarned channel could keep you busy for a few hours.

And last, this is sort of old, but also pretty neat. Machines that Almost Fall Over. Just a warning; it's on Vimeo, if you're not too fond of the site. (I, admittedly, am not.)

Thinkin' Lincoln is a pretty nifty webcomic that I don't really read often, but I was reading through some archives the archive and damn if I didn't laugh my butt off! It features, well, floating heads of famous historic and political figures. Why not! Anyway, read this and this and if you don't laugh at either you might want to check your pulse.

I'm not too fond of rap or Zelda games (actually, it would probably be fair to say that I like rap more than I like Zelda games), but for those of you who have different tastes than me (which is apparently everybody in regards to Zelda games), Ocarina of Rhyme is a completely free mash-up album for your listening pleasure.

This is an interesting read, and pretty damn funny! It's a satire of American culture written fifty years ago, though still relevant today. You should totally read this if you didn't read it the last time I posted it.

And finally - I haven't actually watched it, so I can make no promises to its quality, but Barackula: The Musical (also findable on YouTube) is a thing that exists, and yes, there is Barack Obama, and yes, there are vampires, and yes, it is an internet musical.

Peace!
