Their anniversary today, right? Or their debut in Hawaii was anyway. :p I think i wrote this up a couple of weeks back, but only got around to posting it today, in conjuction of their anniversary. Whose anniversary you ask? The 10th year anniversary for the band I love so much it hurts, of the band I have to thank my friend eternally for introducing to me cause right now I think I adore to bits and itty little pieces. Their my OT5, and no one can ever replace them. Who are they? Why, Arashi of course, the shining stars of the 21st century, and hopefully for many many more centuries to come<3

Arashi is... amazing, to put it in simple terms. Not only do they have squealing fangirls, they also have fanboys who are eternally grateful to them. No I'm not some blind fangirl following and kiss their every footstep, but my devotion does not merely extend to how much I flail over their hotness and how good they sound singing live, because frankly, they're not the best looking band at first glance, and aside from Ohno, I wouldn't say everyone else sounds absolutely angelic on stage, but thats what their charm is. They're not perfect, but to us they're so... real. I wouldn't speak for all Arashi fans, but I personally love them not only for that, but also cause they make me smile, they make me laugh, they make me realize that life can only be lived once, and hey, if you suddenly feel like jumping off an 80foot waterfall or run on corn starch, why not?
Now, listening to their songs and watching their obakaness has become something of a daily habit for me. It is them that brought back the smile to my face, when it is they who made me realize, and remember the value of life, and how we don't really have to face everyday that seriously. Their friendship is amazing as well, and I can take any pairing in Arashi, or I'll just take all of them and I wouldn't mind. Some people might say being a fan of them just because of their friendship isn't really being a fan at all, but its actually part of the reason why we love them. Sometimes I do wonder, if they're friendship is real, or do they only put on a show for everyone. But then again, I somehow think that no, that friendship of theirs shown, somehow or other doesn't seem fake to me.
See, when they're bantering with each other, we somehow get to see the real them, and we somehow just know that their not acting. Their not following scripts. Arashi is being Arashi, and nothing can change that. But even when 5 of them = Arashi, each of them have their own individualistic ability too, and each deserves a different love.
Ohno Satoshi, the Riida and the adorable blur face of them all. Yet behind that spacey outlook of his, he is probably the glue that sticks them together. How everyone automatically looks out for him is adorable, and its more like a mutual understanding between them to look out for their Riida, even if he IS supposed to be the one looking out for them. But Ohno is not as spacey as you think he is. His art and sculptures are amazing, and the way he dances on stage and sings is just heart stopping. It was he who taught me that everyone has their own special talent, no matter what. And to me, Riida was born for the stage... even if he wants to open a bread bakery of his own. :p
Sho-chan, the cutest, most Ondou Unchi Keio-boy in Arashi. His sakurap's are the most awesome, and even if he was the one I didn't really pay attention to at first, he is probably close to being my niiban, if I didn't love the rest that much. His failure's in sports are something I always look forward to, sadistic as it may be, but even so, Sho was the one who made me work hard at whatever I do, no matter what. The way he just continues on and on, be it in his studies, or in minor sports, inspires not only the fans, but even his Jr.s to study, and he was the one who initiated the daigaku boom in JE, wasn't he? xD
Aiba Masaki, now who can forget him? Our darling, dearest Aibaka, the initiater of the legendary A no Arashi, something I look forward to everytime. Sometimes, he makes me wonder how does a son of the a Chinese restaurant owner be able to think up all those crazy experiments, and then I watch an episode of A no Arashi, and realize that heck, this is Aiba Masaki we're talking about, logic doesn't come in play. :p But hey, he always tries new things, and that never hurts right?. . . Okay, so maybe it SOMETIMES hurts his members (I wonder if ogura-san still brings his stomach pills on set. :p), but he has a good heart, and I know he sincerely loves each and everyone of his members. And somehow, its impossible not to sincerely love our Aibaka. :p
Nino-chan, the brat of our darling family. Yet as much as he is sadistic and snarky, no one can help but adore him, even if the slightest, no? He is always doing things for his members, and has written songs for his beloved group, and who could forget the song he wrote for MatsuJun's 20th birthday? And Nino's also the one who introduced me to Dragon Quest, a game I've been hopelessly addicted to till 2 months ago, and his magic tricks are amazing, even if they DO make him more snarky and cocky. But hey, Nino wouldn't be Nino without snark and cocky, so I welcome them all.
MatsuJun, the big Minor Bancho, DoS of our five. He may be the youngest, but his definitely not the baby of them. In fact, if you didn't know, you'd think he was the oldest and Oh-chan was the youngest, looking at their interaction. But even if he is called DoS of Arashi, somehow I know that no matter what, he would never lash out at his own members, and even if he did, he would apologize later, because thats just MatsuJun. He may act grown up and responsible in them, but in the end, he is still the youngest of them all, and sometimes you can actually see that showing through, especially when they get him to do embarassing stuff.
Of course, I was tempted to put the phrase 'loves Arashi the most' in any of the five paragraphs I just written, but I know the truth. And the truth is, all five of them love Arashi the most, more then we could ever compare. Even if they never show it, the five of them may have their own careers, but home base would always be Arashi. in 1999, they might have been some insecurities, but they made a promise to each other, 'to create a storm thoughout the world'. In 2004, Aiba reinforced the promise they made again, this time by saying 'we'll fulfill our promise together, and be #1', and Nino repeated Aiba's sentiments again last year on 24hr TV, at the same stage in the same show, and even if Nino mocked him on the Kokuritsu stage this year, I know Nino shares Aiba's sentiments, that they 'create a storm throughout the world'. And its because of this promises that no matter what, Arashi strives to make themselves better in every angle, together as one, to fulfill the promise not only to their fans and family members, but also to themselves. No matter how tired they are, or how worn out they are from their work, they always present their best and their ultimate at every performance and concerts, never giving an excuse to not perform their best. They work no less then their kouhais, no more then their senpais. Like everyone else, on top of concerts and three regular shows to film for, they have their guestings and promotions, and their individual projects at the same time, but they've never given anything less then their best for performances and concerts, because thats just how much they want to make sure their fans are happy, and Arashi would never settle for anything less then perfect for the fans who invest so much in them, cause MatsuJun's such a perfectionist. :p
If anyone thinks that Arashi fandom is only skin-deep, you're deadly wrong. No one who looks at these five boys at first glance will call them handsome, or hot, or even cute. I have first hand experiance, I never thought they looked good when I first saw them two years ago. But it is their personality, how much they are willing to work for their fans, make their fans smile and enjoy life, that makes us love them so eternally and so loyally. Jun's vow beneath the waterfall in the Mayonaka episode sure came true. For most of us, we truly, truly feel gratitude to the five of them, and truly truly love them for being who they are, for only that way were they able to cheer us up. (And yes, I really mean it, and i'm not the only one. Just read
here and
here and you'll understand what I mean when I say I'm not the only one.)
10 years ago, five boys came together on a cruise ship in Hawaii. Matsumoto Jun, Ninomiya Kazunari, Sakurai Sho, Ohno Satoshi, Aiba Masaki. Five came together to form one, and all of them formed Arashi, on September 15th 1999.
Throughout the 10 years, they have worked themselves to the frigging bone, and no one can ever comprehend what they went through. No group can ever be like them. No other boyband needed to ask time and time again for their own variety show, no group needed to go through midnight filming at godforsaken places just so they can try and improve their popularity. They placed their lives on the line for their craziest experiments, they put their health out at risk when travelling to the ends of earth, and they put their heart and soul in to every single concert they plan just so their fans can get their moneys worth. No other group can be like them, and no one can ever compare.
10 years later, today, on September 15th 2009, they still remain as Arashi, as best friends, as brothers, and as the favorite boys to fans all over the world. And through 10 years, they have never changed. They always prioritize their fans, their country, and have never gotten a big head just because of popularity. They're still as ridiculous, as crazy on TV, and heck they wouldn't mind getting humiliated on national TV, if their fans asked for it. They love us, and in return we love them immeasurably.
So my dear darling stormy boys, please never change who you are, ever. We love you just the way you are, and even 2 years, 5 years, 10 years from now, we'll still remember you, and love you, because to me at least, you're the greatest idols a fandom can ask for.
A few quotes I find absolutely touching, be it from variety shows, or from their self-written songs. :P
