Specifically work.
1. I work a 9 to 5, which is usually an 8:30 to 5:30. I don't have an issue with working long days. But after I've clocked off, I am not paid. I don't get overtime, I don't get shift allowance. I understand there's some management stuff that I can deal with after work has finished, and that's fine. But to expect me to actually do some fucking work after hours when it isn't my fucking problem and I have no resources for it, is stupid.
2. I do care a whole lot about work stuff. But I also understand limitations that staff have, and the constraints they work with. I will *not* ask my staff to do something I myself wouldn't do if I had the relevant skill set or the time.
3. If I can't palm off my work to other departments, why the fuck should they be allowed to palm off their shitty work to me? Notice I said me. It doesn't get dropped on the laps of my staff, it stops with me. Y'know the saying the buck stops here? Well my desk is *here* So don't get loud and obnoxious at me when I tell you to fuck right off and get your own work done.
4. I don't give a damn if it is the most important customer in the world and they have your family as hostages. If it ain't something that I am responsible for, don't look to me to fix the fucking problem for you when you can bloody do it yourself.
5. I will not ask my staff to do something that I am not going to pay them for. Especially when that something is out of their job scope. For example, I will *not* call one of my engineers to do work after hours when it hasn't been scheduled with them before hand. They are *not* on call and they deserve their breaks too. I do not work in Technical Support. We have a department of people who do. Get them to actually do some work instead of just acting like a fucking call centre (cause we got a department who does that too) FFS it isn't like you're not paying bottom dollar as it is.
6. When I tell you at the interview that I don't take to micro-management. Don't smile and say, that's ok, we don't do that. Then after I get the job wonder why I'm getting shitty because you're trying to micro-manage me. I don't give a flying fuck if you've got control issues. I run a team of people who are adults and do take pride in their work. As adults we either need instructions which don't deviate from process or autonomy to get the job done. You can't have it both ways.
GRRRRR anger rising,
