Books read #121-160

Aug 21, 2012 12:50

-5/17 The Midnighters-Westerfeld (new)(library)(ebook) he's good at atmosphere- the blue time is beautifully described and the characters are nicely delineated, with belivable quirks and flaws

-5/18 The Calling-Armstrong (new)(library)(paper)
-5/19 New Mutants:A Date With The Devil-Abnett, Lanning, López (new)(library)(paper(comic))no idea what's going on
-5/20 Avengers:West Coast Avengers:Lost in Space-Time-Engelhart, Milgrom (new)(library)(paper)(comic)
-5/21 Shadow Unit:Season One (reread)(mine)(purchased ebook-nook)
-5/24 My Year of Flops-Rabin (new)(library)(paper) I read a bunch of the entries online when they came out, but not all and I barely remembered the ones I had read. Overall, mildly diverting, easy to pick up and put down
-5/25 Winter of Magic's Return-Service (reread)(library)(paper) perhaps the longest time between readings- I think I had this book when I was in grade school- it's almost creepy how it's just about how I remembered
-5/25-Tomorrow's Magic-Service (new)(library)(paper) hard to hold up to the first one, but pretty good
-5/25 Marineman -Churchill (new)(library)(paper)(comic) a bit obvious and YA type, but the ocean stuff was pretty
-5/26 Streets of Gotham:The House of Hush-Dini, Nguyen, Fridolfs (new )(library)(paper)(comic)
-5/26 Shadow Unit:Season Two (reread)(mine)(purchased ebook-nook)
-5/27 Shadow Unit:Season Three (reread)(mine)(purchased ebook-nook)133-5/27 Shadow Unit:Season Four (reread)(mine)(purchased ebook-nook and online)
-5/27 The Big Rewind-Rabin (new )(library)(paper) yeah, kind of sexist in the corners, but interesting.
-5/29 Earth Magic-Service (new)(library)(ebook) see comment on Tomorrow's Magic :)
-5/30 Masques-Briggs (new)(library)(ebook) Surprisingly good
-5/30 Wolfsbane-Briggs(new)(library)(ebook) ditto
-Ali Baba and the forty thieves : reloaded-Mukherjee, Tayal (new )(library)(paper)(comic) not worth it, simplistic
-The last unicorn(graphic novel)-Beagle, Gillis, De Liz (new )(library)(paper)(comic) not sure what to think.
-6/4 Uglies-Westerfeld ( new)(library)(paper) not as good as I expected, but I'd had the bar set really high, so still pretty good
-6/5 Blood Spirits-Smith (new)(library)(paper) I never like the blurbs or what you'd say in a 3 sentance plot description, but I like just about everything I read of hers
-6/5 Dog-Bradford (new)(library)(paper) demolishes the 'alpha' model of dog/wolf behavior
-6/5 Touching Darkness-Westerfeld (new)(library)(paper) series continues good
-6/6 Blue Noon-Westerfeld (new)(library)(ebook) see previous- one of those endings that really does sum things up, but you want more anyway, even though it's best that it be over
-6/6 Shay's Story-Westerfeld  (new)(library)(paper)(comic) meh- not big on the manga style, even though I get that the 'pretties' look is that style
-6/6 Homecoming-Briggs (new)(library)(paper)(comic) nice, for comics, rendering of women, interesting prequel type story
-6/6 Pretties-Westerfeld (new)(library)(paper)
-6/12 Death's Excellent Vacation-ed Harris, Kelner (new)(library)(ebook)
-6/13 When Demons Walk-Briggs (new)(library)(ebook) I like the series, even with no repeat characters really, but I'd like a stronger sense of how the 3rd and 4th books in this universe tie into the world-it's almost like if a book series had 2 set in London, then one in Prague and one in Budapest. It's the same world, but not like one in London and one in Sheffield or something
-6/18 Crown Duel-Smith (new)(mine-kindle sale)(ebook) Again, I never learn and I still thought I wouldn't like it and couldn't put it down.
-6/18 Court Duel-Smith (new)(mine-kindle sale)(ebook)
-6/18 The Sixes-White (new)(library)(ebook)- General note for all White's books. My mom recommended the author and that's why I read them. They're single white chick is in the middle of a mystery and solves it while being cute and having personal/relationship problem books. Decent for the genre, fairly forgettable.
-6/19 A Civil Contract-Heyer  (new)(library)(ebook) I get why this is an oft-named Heyer
-6/20 Steal a Dragon-Briggs  (new)(library)(paper)-see note on When Demons Walk
-6/21 Hush-White (new)(library)(ebook)
-6/24-Specials-Westerfeld (new)(library)(paper)
-6/25-A Posse of Princesses-Smith (new)(mine-kindle sale)(ebook)-Ditto other Sherwood Smith books, this is more of a YA than some of the others (not that that's bad)
-7/1-No Defense-Wilhelm (reread)(mine)(paper) I gave this to my dad and when he hadn't read it after at least 3 yrs I took it back
-7/2-Reaper Man-Pratchett (new)(library)(ebook)160-7/3-Poison-Wells (new)(library)(ebook) sad. I read a lot of mysteries and it's depressing how irl, murder is done for such selfish, stupid reasons. I don't think that there should be dramatic real life murders or anything, but here, a guy kills his wife and best friend for insurance payouts so he can continue to lazily coast thru life without really working. It's so mundane and sad.
