Bugged me that the author perpetuates the popular delusion that apes and monkeys are less evolved or 'older' than humans. Possibly it's just a simplification rather than saying that a trait shared by humans and monkeys would be old because it developed in a common ancestor, a long time ago, instead of just saying it's old because it's found in monkeys. 'Cause everything alive on earth now is all end products of about the same amount of evolutionary time- there's a big difference between sharing a common ancestor and saying we're descended from apes. Even so-called living fossils are still ends of evolutionary branches, just long, unchanging branches.
