Spook Me ficathon --This story is set in an alternative universe with a female Peter Parker--ENJOY!!
When everything had calmed down, or as calm as everything could be with people (children) either injured, maimed or worse being taken to the hospital or the morgue, Penny Parker was finally able to admit that MJ had been right about her irrational fear of pumpkins.
Or, as it turns out, actually not that irrational.
When May had first told Penny about the fall festival at Shadyside Pumpkin Patch, it sounded like a potentially delightful afternoon The festival would be filled with hayrides, corn mazes and hot chocolate galore. In other words, Shadyside would be an ideal place to celebrate all things autumnal with her aunt and close friends.
Which would have been fabulous if it hadn’t been for the pumpkins.
A little girl crouched as low as she could, trying to shield herself as the pumpkins loomed over her, their carved faces hideous as they grinned viciously, their leaves forming into spindly legs, the gleaming silver from their hooked hands glittering in the sunlight…
The day of the attack started out like a typical October afternoon: the sky was cloudless, vibrant blue, the sun shone brightly overhead, and the air held a tinge of crispness.
No one, not even Spider-girl herself, was prepared for what happened next.
A blood curdling scream at the pumpkins smashing zone caused Ned and MJ to both stumble, May to turn around in confusion and Penny to stare in horror.
One minute everyone at the festival had been having fun in the pool of pumpkins, the parents taking pictures as their kids laughed and rolled around in the pit, and the next the pumpkins had come alive and started biting and growling at the terrified children.
“Pumpkins,” Penny had muttered, “It’s always pumpkins.”
The pumpkins were gigantic with long leaf covered legs and arms and shiny hooks for hands. Parents gasped in fright, trying to protect their little ones from the onslaught, as the pumpkins swung their hooked hands at the kids, sometimes missing and sometimes taking skin off, the ground of the pumpkin patch quickly becoming soaked in blood as the hooks gouged deeper and drew more blood….
She didn’t like to admit it out loud, but Penny had always despised all things pumpkin. She didn’t like pumpkin lattes, abhorred pumpkin seeds and would start gagging at the mention of pumpkin carving.
She’d simply thought she suffered from cucurbitophobia and as she watched the orange monsters slicing at people left and right, she’d wished her fear of pumpkins hadn’t meant the fruit would someday come alive and start assaulting children.
Penny walked determinedly towards the pumpkins, as she tried to contain her nauseated revulsion, knowing she had to somehow stop the monstrous invasion.
She could see out of the corner of her eye that May, MJ and Ned were already getting as many people to safety as they could which left the orange menaces for her to deal with.
The sinister grins on the pumpkins faces widened, their hooked hands swaying in the air but before Penny could even raise her web-shooter, a portal opened and Dr. Strange stepped out.
Penny blinked in confusion at the sudden and unexpected appearance but the sorcerer was already speaking. “Penny, you need to throw this potion at the pumpkins, it’s the only thing that will stop them.”
She took the glass tubes from him, the potion smelling suspiciously like vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves.
Dr. Strange nodded encouragingly at her and for her part, Penny shrugged, hoped for the best and threw the glass tube at the closest deranged fruit, making it explode on contact.
Penny didn’t have time to duck before she was covered in pumpkin guts; she could feel her stomach start to flip, but the sorcerer smiled in relief.
She wiped the guts from her face, while the orange monsters screamed in anger. She straightened her shoulders as the remaining pumpkins turned as one unit to move towards her
Penny took aim at another pumpkin before asking. “This ‘potion’ is the recipe for pumpkin pie isn’t?”
