"You're studying Latin now?"
Peter glanced up from the flash cards he was studying before simply replying "Etiam,"
"Is that supposed to be an answer?" Tony asked cautiously.
"Quid vobis videtur?" Peter cheekily responded back.
Peter knew it was a tad bit unusual to choose Latin as an elective but he decided to add it to his schedule, knowing it would look impressive on his college applications.
He was also rather glad that his first exposure to the long dead language was in translating Christmas carols to English.
He'd had fun sifting through Adeste, fideles "O Come, All Ye Faithful", Qualis puer qui in Mariae "What Child is This?" and Orientis Reges Tres "We Three Kings" but it wasn't until he got to the carol "Of the Father's Heart Begotten" that he'd begun to regret his decision.
Peter finally gave into his frustration and threw himself face first onto the couch. Tony had to move several pillows in order to hear Peter's rant.
"Listen to how crazy this is. The song was first written in the fifth century which in turn was inspired from an even older poem that's been translated about a bazillion times and now I have zero idea which version is the most accurate."
"I mean, how do you explain the original text of "Corde natus ex parentis," being translated to "Of the parent sole begotten," with the word "parent" being used as a synonym for God and then later changed to "Father."
Peter looked beseechingly at his father figure/mentor. "Does that make any damn sense?"
"Nihil?"
