This is a 445 word Elementary drabble for the Weekend Challenge at 1_million_words       ENJOY!!

Sherlock’s diagnosis of Post Concussion Syndrome brought a mixed bag of good and bad days.

His doctor and Watson both agreed that he was slowly improving, but there were days that were worse then others.

Today however was a “good” one because his head didn’t ache, he didn’t feel the least bit sleepy and his mind felt as sharp as it had before his sickness.

So of course, he decided to celebrate this by pushing his senses to the brink.

Sherlock sat in front of his police scanner, tuning in between the fire and police calls, listening closely to the codes for the citywide cops and highway patrol.

While he always enjoyed hearing the calls for the towing companies and where the various vehicles had to be extracted from, he actually wanted to stay current with who was perpetrating the more violent crimes in his city.

He hadn’t realized how much time had passed until Watson came into the room looking at him worriedly.

Sherlock glanced at his watch, surprised that three hours had passed and he nodded reassuredly at her.  “I’ll be off shortly,” he promised.

She looked unsure but after pointing at her watch threateningly, she left him to finish monitoring his broadcasts.

After fifteen minutes he knew it was time to stop.

The noise from the scanner was starting to irritate him because he only seemed to be picking up a static, screeching like squawk and he could feel a dull pain start to thud in his brain.

He winced, hunching his shoulders up in discomfort, as the screeching seemed to increase in loudness the more he tried to tune the sound in.

Sherlock had his fingers on the dial, slowly tuning the sound in when a terrified scream tore through the sound system.

He tried lowering the volume but the shrieking continued and it took all of his self-control to not cover his ears but then it abruptly stopped.

Startled at how deafening the silence was, Sherlock found himself leaning into the speakers, trying to pick up any noise he could.

It was only after he had his ear pressed completely against the speaker that he could make out that someone was talking or rather whispering.

The voice kept muttering the same words over and over again: “I know you’re listening.”

Sherlock started to call out to Watson but he stopped, a sense of dread curled into his stomach.  The whispering had also now stopped but what if…

What if this was all in his head?  He turned determinedly to the scanner but doubt began to creep in.  Would he find the whispering voice again?  Or was it all a hallucination?
