I found a bathtub buried in someone's backyard! No lie! Let me back it up it a bit. There's this old house about a block up the street that's overgrown and in disrepair. It's been like this since my family moved in around sixteen years ago. The guy that owned it was in a nursing home so no one lived there. It was that spooky house that no one wanted to go near that you usually see on TV and such.
Anyway, the guy died and the house went to his son. In Florida. Right, so he wasn't going to come up to an old house like that to clean it up. Too much work. But the place was falling apart and neighbors started complaining. One day, they come up to my mom with a petition to have something done about the house. Well that's not going to do. If you want it fixed, why not do something more then sign a piece of paper. Like, you know, go up there and fix it. She finds his guy's phone number, calls him up, tells him what's going on, and offers to clean it up. The dude thinks this is great and offers to pay. Well hey, money, awesome. So we start going down there and cleaning. I raked up giant piles of leaves just about every time I was up there. There was just no stop to the leaves. They'd been there so long that we had to dig out part of the driveway because the leaves had turned back to dirt and buried it.
Then we move to the back yard, cutting down where some plants had taken over. When we first find the bath, we're not sure what it is. Just a white rim sticking out of the ground an inch. We thought it might be some plastic or something like that as it had a small tree growing out of it. But as we start to dig it out we find where the faucet went. It was a bathtub. This guy had a bathtub buried in his back yard. We'd expected the place to be overgrown and we expected to find plenty of junk, but a bath? We left it be for a day to clean up around it, not sure what to make of it.
After the little tree is pulled out, mom starts digging inside it. Glass bottles are found. Really, really old glass bottles. Asking around we find out that this guy collected them. Oooookay. Not weird on it's own but what was up with the bath. Once that's out of the way, we work on getting it out of the ground. I'm still expecting it to only be part of a bath. Cause, who buries a whole bath in their backyard? And how did he do it? Those things are heavy. Did someone help? We also start wondering if this house has been left on it's own so long that the leaves are the thing to blame for burying it, but that wouldn't really work once we thought about it. Hasn't been that long.
Today we got it up. It's a whole bath, just missing the faucet parts. We'd also started to wonder if it'd have feet, but it didn't. Would have ben neat if it had. Now we have this bath setting out and a big hole to fill in. Soooo yeah. More later once I get the before and after pictures from Mom. Cause this is just nuts.
