Thanks to a bout of food poisoning, i am currently lounging at home, indulging in this new kdrama that i found...it's called 9 End 2 Outs and it just turns all all the usual kdrama tricks on its head!
Both the leads have just turned 30 and he, Hyung Tae is looking for a healthy 30s and she, Nan Hee is looking for a 30s without regrets. They have been friends since they were born (their parents were friends too) and so, know all about each other. Due to certain circumstances, Nan Hee ends up living with Hyung Tae, which in Korea, is something utterly shameful and disgraceful cos it means cohabiting...
Anyway, these 2 friends stand by each other through thick and thin and snark and snarl at each other, but with such humour and good-grace and love and affection for each other....did i mention that the chemistry between Lee Jung Jin (HT here, and he looks good enough to eat!) and Soo Ae (NH) is brilliant!? He's a total player and is being chased by a younger co-worker and she's in a relationship with a 22 year old college baseball player...
In the first episode, as she faces up to a failure at 30, we find out that they had made a promise to each other that if by the time they were 30 and were still single, they would marry each other...of course HT says no and NH is just upset at being single and not doing well professionally (she really wants to be a writer, but is working in a small publishing firm)...anyway, the very moment that this drama pulled me in? It was when HT, seeing NH crying, pulls her in for a hug and says 'You should have just said that you needed a friend and not a man right now...' AWWWWW......
The funniest so far... er...she waves a hole puncher at him during a mock fight...and all the scraps they get into when NH's mother comes over (NO ONE knows they live together!)...and that dream he had of having a rampant snog with her! rofl!!!
As the series unfolds, we also find out that her boyfriends have all had trouble accepting her extremely close relationship with HT. in fact, her first love, tells HT, much later, when they are all grown up and another friend's wedding that the reason he broke up wuth NH was because he has issued her an ultimatum, HT or him....no prizes for guessing who NH picked... we find out that NH used to spy on HT out of the corner of her eye when they were teenagers cos she fancied him, and that he did love her...even though both swear that they do not see each other as either a woman or a man!
We see the wistfulness in NH's face when she sees the younger co-worker of HT and graciously bows out of a dinner party originally planned for just herself and HT, she's sorting the food, and he's bought red wine AND 2 wine glasses (and they say that they dont fancy each other!? ALL LIES!!!) And the dawning jealousy in HT as he sees NH with her little bit on the side and as he realises that her first bf is still hanging round her... When will these 2 realise that they are in lurve, and probably have been in lurve for the best part of their lives!!!??? i guess this is what really attracts me to the film, how 2 friends who know each other inside out, realise that there are still things they dont know about the other, and how as they keep looking elsewhere for love, come to realise that they've been looking at it all along...
Apparently, the series uses a lot of baseball analogies to describe the problem with love and relationships. unfortunately it is completely lost on me!!!
Ahhhhh.... need more! must watch more!!!!
