...I'd rather be in New Orleans.
For all that Anthony Keadis pronounces New Orleans wrong (it's New OR-lins or N'Awlins, not New Or-LEENS), I understand what he means in that lyric. What a city! It's amazing!
Mr. Kit and I agreed we could live there. If only we could afford one of those balconied apartments above the various shops that line the streets! It's an exciting, vibrant place and we can't wait until we can get the time and money to go again. We have agreed that we won't go around a holiday; fighting our way along Frenchman street in the midst of the NOLA Halloween crowd was really no fun at all -- but everything else was!
The trip got off to a bit of a sour start when the other 4 all decided to ride in Duffey's car. Since it was 9 PM and pouring, Mr. Kit quite sensibly did not want me driving, but he also did not want to drive for 14 hours. We had to right out ask Kurt if he'd be willing to join us for part of the trip; luckily he agreed to take a short shift so Mr. Kit could get some sleep. (And me, too...I try very hard to stay awake with Mr. Kit on long trips so that he has someone to talk to if he wants to talk, or someone to talk to him, or read to him, or play the radio loud and not feel he's disturbing me.) Then Duffey's car, which was in the lead, took a sudden, random exit and THEN called us to say, oh, they were going to Wall-Mart and did we want to meet them there? Too late for us to make the exit...however, since they had the directions, we didn't have much choice. This did give us a chance to get Subway, though, after we found the Wall-Mart, which was a plus.
We had a fairly uneventful trip, aside from the downpour and a gas station that lost power seconds after we finished fueling. Rae and Duffey took a bunch of pictures there...during which I hid as I really don't like having my picture taken. (Not that you can tell from this weekend...pictures of me on FB went from 16 to 49.)
14 hours later, a rather tired if psyched group of people arrived at Tierney's parents' house, where we met her mom (christened Mrs. Tierney by Kurt) and got to change our clothes and stretch our legs. Kurt broke the neighbor's tree; I played with their dog (of course). We then went into the town Tierney lives in (never did get the name) to meet Tierney's dad and brother, who were working at the family store. (Really great men's clothes, wow!) Then we set off for New Orleans! I fell asleep in the "girl car" with Tierney, Rae, and Jenn...don't ask me how, those girls are LOUD. But I managed.
We then adjourned to our seperate hotels (Mr. Kit, the Ninjas, and I were at one and the rest were at another) and then met up at the Acme Oyster House. Tierney and Kurt each ordered 2 dozen, and races on their second dozen to see who could eat them faster. Kurt won by a mile. Mr. Kit and I split a dozen. They were very good, but 6 was certainly plenty. I also had a bowl of gumbo and it was SO GOOD! Gotta add that to things I want to learn to cook...it's probably too complicated for me, though. After lunch, Mr. Kit and I went back to our hotel and rested, because that night we were hitting a bar!
I will continue this in another post because I am busy moving furniture. My bruised heel still hurts, too.
