Well, today was nice. Apart from the complete lack of sleep last night, but in the end that didn't interfere anyway. The day started with picking up Mirime and Sena from Burger King in Taringa, and heading out to the EKKA. Found a good park on the street in an 11 hour parking spot, paid for there till 6pm, and we all trundled down. Upon entering the show, we went straight into the showbag pavilion, and bought some bags that contained kitty ears. Mirime and TheMP proceeded for the rest of the day to wear these (which made for handy crowd recognition).
I was also wearing my Princess hat, which was very nice but was only commented on by about 5 or 6 people. It also got a lot of odd looks, so I wasn't that upset. After a lot of odd wanderings and ponies, eventually we had to say goodbye to Mirime and Sena for their bruise inducing activities. This allowed TheMP and me to properly assess sideshow alley. We decided to avoid rides, but tried a few games. This lead to some really crappy prizes at first, although they are going to all be used except for the odd stencil thing we got. After some wandering we joined one of those race game things, the ones of "skill". We spent about ten minutes waiting for the full group to come, during which I found a handy trick, that if you roll the ball with top-spin like this it would be more likely to go into the hole as opposed to come back down. I don't know if the race was close or not, however I did win, giving TheMP full choice from the stall as to what she wanted. She took a big fluffy lion, and we went on our way.
It was then that I noticed the difference. You see, until that point, the stall people would constantly vie to draw you over. Once you are walking with one of the BIG prizes, they don't want to know you, they won't even give eye contact. You are a winner, and apparently they don't like that type :P
But the day went just a little better. After some more frolicking, we went back to the showbag pavilion to leave, and came across a Telstra stand. TheMP wanted to recharge her phone, so we did that, and discovered that by spending $30 we were awarded ten seconds in the "prize chamber." The wind turned on, strips of paper fluttering rapidly around me I found a nice position to trap them and left with a nice handful. The woman went away to bring me my prizes, which included hats, mugs, some weird frisby things, some waterbottle bumbags, and a $10 MYER gift certificate :O Not a bad haul for just recharging your phone at the EKKA.
