Nothing like a parent to dampen the mood.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way...
SWEET HEAVEN - THEATRE!!
I've been missing this so much...
So, what have we got?
Cinderella - Dandini is most definitely a boy, but in the "Grease and Desist", play-within-a-play sense, i.e. girl playing a girl playing a boy who dresses like a girl. With me? I'm not.
And... he's British. And has something of a "thing" for The Prince. Come on, I had to. It's all subtext.
Tap - Loving it. Teacher actually asked me if I'd tapped before. It's just fun.
And hey! The teacher lives in the next city over from me, so I get a ride home each lesson!
Broadway Workshop - Though the instructor spits (a lot! No sitting in the front row!), it's freakin' awesome. We did "America" (July 4th, anyone?), "Hernando's Hideaway" and "Why Can't You Behave?" He asked for volunteers to sing each, and I did the last. I actually had a different lyric for the last verse ("Well, at least 'till you dig my grave" as opposed to "'Cause you're all in the world I crave"...), and I was used as an example of the proper way to perform a song: connection with the audience, diction, eye contact and facial expression, voice... etc. That felt good. :)
And, well, comments after class are also fun.
Beit Zvi - ... Bah. Not really enjoying it. I haven't got much to play with. Today people suddenly noticed that I don't have a monologue like the rest of the class. They started asking questions. And I had no answers.
It's a typecast within itself. The singer.
Never mind that the show is in August. The teacher is flipping out like it's tomorrow. I'm starting to loathe her.
Every director deals with stress, but there's stress with some yelling, and there's stress with losing it completely.
And fuck, apparently as a cat, I have to wear a leotard and tights. This wouldn't be so bad if the rest of the cats were... well... more of my body type. I'm stuck with a group of very petite, thin, beautiful-but-bony girls... and we'll all be in uber-form-fitting clothing. Me with my waist and big boobs.
This does nothing for my self-confidence.
Even though it's been rising since I bought and began wearing my new jeans.
"I'm up every morning at six
And standing in line
With two hundred girls
Who are younger and thinner than me
Who have already been to the gym..."
So... off to the dance shop tomorrow. Must get clothes, and depending on prices, perhaps tap shoes as well.
Nathaniel's at his prom... Prom Queen. =P
