I went to an audition yesterday for Norman Robbin's Pantomime, "Cinderella".
Other than the fact that the audition was the most fun I've been through (people sitting around a table on stage, reading text and swapping roles, getting up occassionally to sing...), I got a part. =)
I'm playing Dandini, Prince Charming's right-hand man.
The really cool thing about this show is that except for Cinderella and the peasantry roles, all the roles are gender-bent. The stepfamily are played by guys in drag, and Dandini and Prince Charming are played by girls in high heels and short skirts (Note to self: Must lose weight!!).
The other totally awesome part of this show is that it's a kids show to be performed on Chanukah (5 performances at the least), no doubt the high season for childrens' theatre. It's written for little ears, but with many jokes and humourous bits for the grownups who take them. You read pieces of the script and you just hear the giggles in your head. There's nothing like performing for children.
Cinders A Ball? Tonight? But where?
Buttons Ah, that's got you interested, hasn't it? It's at Castle Glamorous, and everybody in the village has been invited.
Cinders Oh, I can't believe it. How did you find out?
Buttons Oh, some fancy-looking feller wearing lipstick, high heels and no trousers told me.
I think Dandini's gay. =P
