When a fire takes a room, it destroys completely. It blackens everything beyond use. Everything's gone and there's nothing you can do but gather it all up and throw it away. It leaves no choices, no room for thought and consideration.
A fire is merciful in a way.
When water takes a room, it disolves it. It takes over the room even once you've identified the source of the problem and how to control it. It seeps through memories, flooding everything. It leaves plenty of room for unhealthy deliberation, hanging back, trying to save tiny bits and pieces that aren't really salvageable.
A flood tricks you into thinking it's easier to deal with.
