What a difference a week makes!

I'd like to wish everyone a belated 'happy october.' Quite tragically, my last entry is dated 28 September; much has happened. Or, at the very least, I am under the illusion that much has happened. I have been alternatively horribly busy, and also in a fog.

Last thursday I reacted against the system I had been trying to build in Santa Cruz. For nearly a fortnight that system had held; last thursday it crumbled when I decided I wanted to eat TWO slices of pizza, watch Easy Riders, Raging Bulls (2003), and have a bag of popcorn to boot. It was a lovely evening of inactivity; I got to watch a movie, eat way too much, and spend time with Jesika. The next day, however, I paid for my food indulgence. I'm glad I have prunes.

Because of my thursday indulgences, friday was a bit of a challenge, especially because I had to work my first friday night ever. Unbelievable that I am on my fourth job (when 2 years ago I had not had one at all) and have yet to work a friday night (and I still haven't worked a saturday night). I didn't mind, to be perfectly honest. As soon as I got off work at 11, it was time to head on back to Modesto. My dad was his typical, loveable, loud self and Jesika, as usual, was made anxious by my dad's constant shouting of politics. But, there we were, having just completed two weeks in Santa Cruz, and on the road to Modesto for a wedding and a birthday party.

Saturday morning and sunday morning would prove to be relaxing, but not by much. By relaxing on saturday, I mean that there was good morning sex and then a trip to Borders to buy a birthday present (It was Jesika's idea to go there). I purchased myself a copy of Foreign Affairs and I bought Jesika the Teach Yourself: Hungarian. I also had some In-N-Out. Oh, how I wish we had an In-N-Out Burger in Santa Cruz! But I digress.

The wedding wasn't until Saturday evening. I, personally, had a very lovely time; however, in retrospect, I was pretty shitty to Jesika. I was eager to see people I hadn't seen in a while, to have a good meal, drink, and karoke. Unfortunately, I negelected Jesika as a result. (sigh). I need to work on that. The food was excellent, I saw a junior high teacher of mine (that was alternatively awkward, creepy, and okay). I was pretty plastered, but I did not vomit. I also had many strange and surreal conversations. One of the security guys grew up in Santa Cruz; there was a writer there who gave me a bookmark that advertises his book (lee ryan miller); the junior high teacher, and his connections to other people; that my dad knew the caterer, who teaches at the high school I went to; possibly other things that I can't remember.

There were bonding moments, awkward moments, and fun drunk moments. I had fun karoking. I remember singing "Gimme Shelter" (Rolling Stones), Camptown Races, that Rod Stewart song 'if you want my body and you think i'm sexy'; "Horse With No Name," "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" (Culture Club) and I'm not sure what else. It was god awful. No, seriously, that was proof that karoke is bad, and can only be done (and enjoyed) while drunk. It was an enjoyable wedding, for me; it was unenjoyable for my neglected girlfriend.

On sunday, things seemed to slow down in the morning. I was hungover, my sister and brother-in-law had spent the night (because Jesika was the only one who could drive, and she drove to my parents house). It was leisurely until about 12 when it became apparent that we'd have to get our asses in gear in order to accomplish all the pre-party stuff by 3. We went to Costco, ordered the pizzas, and what not.

The party itself was fun. I ate waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much pizza. I'm pretty sure that, even counting what I took to Santa Cruz and ate on Monday, I must have eaten for sure 1 and 1/2 pizza, possibly 2. That food indulgence also made me feel like shit, a feeling I have not been able to fully shake until today. Perhaps that's why the update took so long? Regardless, I hope my niece enjoyed her party. She's 6 now; it's nuts to think how much I've seen her grow up.

This week has been slower. I've only worked one day so far (yesterday) and will only work on friday and sunday. I'm glad I have saturday off, and I think 11 is still early enough to party....or at least to catch the midnight movie. :-) This weekend will be good, I just hope I don't over-indulge in anything like I did last weekend. I've slowed down a bit, spent more time socializing, and am ever so slightly behind reading, but I know I can catch up. Going to Modesto had the horrible combination of being relaxing and putting me behind a little bit. I don't care much, really.

Now, to reiterate and repeat everything I always do. Things are good and there's much to be done. I don't know. Yeah. And all the other cliches I regularly write. Anyways, I'm gonna watch more Golden Girls, eat breakfast, and possibly study a bit. I hope I update again sooner rather than later. Cheers.
